Let us go back to November 2024. ESPN’s Shams Charania had reported that the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry and New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu were planning on bringing their three-point shootout to the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. However, Charania teased that there were good chances of Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson and Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark joining them.

“Sources tell me that Curry and Ionescu are continuing discussions on bringing back that shootout—there are plans for that—but also potentially including Klay Thompson and Caitlin Clark in that competition this year,” Chanaria has revealed. How true were his claims?

Well, we don’t know how true they were but what we do know is Reggie Miller has confirmed the same. The TNT analyst was front and center during the Boston Celtics’ utter mauling of the Golden State Warriors on Monday. The Celtics didn’t simply win. They achieved something that had never happened before. While Jayson Tatum racked up 22 points, Kristaps Porzingis contributed 18. Boston brought about the worst lopsided loss the Bay has ever had in 40 years, 125-85.

At the same time, the Warriors were not in the best form. They only managed to shoot a terrible 34.8% from the field. Their three-point shooting was even worse at 12.5% in the first half…

Sure, Stephen Curry did his best to keep the ship afloat with 18 points, but his side didn’t have key players like Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga, leaving them outmatched from the jump. At one point, they went over 7 minutes without scoring a basket! Yeah, it was that bad. While the game itself was a talking point, Reggie Miller’s commentary stole the show—for better or worse.

Midway through the game, he casually mentioned Caitlin Clark, potentially joining the NBA 3-Point Contest—a bold claim that had everyone talking. What did the fans say?

The fanbase reacts again! Reggie Miller left everyone thrilled!

Have an interesting take?

After Miller casually dropped the information, fans were left looking around for more information. However, here is something we need to consider in this discussion. On November 22, Caitlin Clark hit like on a social media post that read: “Imagine you have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on the NBA side, then you get Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark on the WNBA side.”

Now well, the All-Star weekend in February could coincide with the Unrivalled league that kicks off in January 2025. Given there has been no confirmation from the 2024 ROTY about joining the league, we might as well catch a glimpse of her alongside the greats. No wonder fans were left excited. They wrote:

  • Reggie Miller just said Caitlin doing the NBA 3-point contest 🤫.”
  • “Caitlin Clark and Sabrina vs Steph and Klay was basically confirmed I thought? I am excited.”

Notably, Ionescu herself picked Clark as her ideal partner for the contest, adding credibility to the idea. Back in November, she was given a scenario of facing both the Splash Bros for which she needed to pick a partner. “If I had to choose, I am taking Caitlin Clark on my team,” she said. This matchup was written in the stars, wasn’t it?

All fans have to do is wait for official confirmation about Clark’s involvement. Another fan mentioned:

  • “Oh, well if Reggie Miller, who has no connection or relationship with Caitlin Clark, said then it must be true.”

But here’s the thing: Reggie Miller’s sister, Cheryl Miller, was the one who coached Clark at the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. Then in later 2023, Clark, Reggie Miller, and Jimmy Butler also appeared in a State Farm commercial together. Regardless, there were some fans who were skeptical about what the TNT analyst stated. Some fans wrote:

However, his statements related to Caitlin Clark weren’t the only thing that caught the viewers’ attention. At other moments in the game, Miller casually doled out that some teams were “in the same boat as the Warriors.” This line had fans rolling their eyes in unison! One fan hilariously pointed out the obvious flaw in Miller’s statement:

  • “No Reggie, we are not in the same boat as the Warriors. As you can see, they are 8 games under .500 in that span, and we are actually .500.”

Translation? Not all struggles are equal. Comparing the Warriors’ freefall to other teams’ minor stumbles feels like a stretch. But hey, it is Miller we are talking about. His commentary is a mix of sharp insights, random stories, and those ‘Wait, what did he just say?’ moments. Some people love the unpredictability—it keeps things interesting. But for others, it can feel like a bit of a distraction from the game. Either way, you’ve got to admit, he knows how to get people talking. What do you think?
