Is Giannis Antetokounmpo's leadership failing the Bucks, or is it just a rough patch?

The Milwaukee Bucks are off to their worst season start, with only 2 wins in 10 games. Many critics have a common name in their mouths- the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis is the face of the Bucks, and he has approved all recent decisions. He reportedly gave his nod to recent signings and the change of head coach. As the team falls to new lows each day, fans fairly point fingers at the power forward.

Chandler Parsons didn’t skimp with his bold bashes at the Greek hooper. Giannis seems to need such brutal reality checks. So, talking on FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, the former NBA player claimed:

“Everyone thought after the changes, after adding Damian Lillard and having another offseason, this team was going to take that step forward. I know you can look to Khris Middleton being out, but it’s hard to picture him being the savior of this team when we don’t know which Khris Middleton we’re going to get.” Parsons said. “I look at Giannis, and this is the team that he approved and he wanted. There’s no way they didn’t make that trade for Jrue Holiday and Dame without Giannis okaying it. There’s no way they fired Adrian Griffin without him okaying it.”

Clearly, from removing coach Mike Budenholzer to signing and then letting go of Adrian Griffin, every move has Giannis Antetokounmpo’s stamp on it. When he wanted Damian Lillard, the Bucks got him. Likewise, when he wanted Jrue Holiday, the team signed him. Antetokounmpo wanted Jrue traded, and they did it. Yet, despite all these changes, where are the results?

The situation is so bad for the Bucks that it forces one to wonder who will leave first. The head coach Doc Rivers or Giannis Antetokounmpo himself. At the same time, experts strongly suggest that the hooper should stay, take the lead, and see things through because the choices were his.

What is bigger- a player or the team? Well, for the Bucks it looks like their player, Giannis Antetokounmpo is the bigger, or rather the most important member of the franchise. Of course, the 29-year-old is a 2x MVP and holds a ring with the team. But, does that put him on a higher pedestal? Even higher than the position of a head coach?

Lou Williams said on Run It On: “Do we see a world in which Doc gets fired first or Giannis is out? What are we looking at here? It’s going to be Doc first.” He boldly claimed. Well, being the head coach, Doc Rivers hasn’t been fruitful, at all. One after the other, the games have gone downhill and the Bucks sit on the second last step of the Eastern Conference, just above the Raptors.

The ex-NBA player adds: “He [Giannis Antetokounmpo] cleared trades. He asked for certain guys to come in and pushed for a big splash. He was part of the coaching change that originally brought Doc in. They’ll have to share responsibility for where the team is right now. But if you’re going to pick one, I think it’s Doc Rivers before Giannis.” Moreover, if they trade the Greek Freak, the HC will have his chance to mold the game around Damian Lillard. Would Antetokounmpo want that? Probably not.

Milwaukee needs to start answering the questions they are being asked. The only way to do this is by winning games. Ten games down and 72 more to go, the former NBA champs must find their ground back. Undoubtedly. Giannis Antetokounmpo is an integral part of the team, however, the franchise has to look beyond him. Winning more games should be the target now more than anything else, and the Bucks have the talent to turn the tables. But, the question is: Can they do it?
