The Currys, one of the most beloved families in the NBA, share a beautiful bond. While Stephen Curry remains the most famous member, other family members have also left their mark. Brothers Steph and Seth Curry followed in their father Dell’s footsteps and joined the NBA. Growing up, Curry was a skinny boy, and even when he joined the league in 2009, his extraordinary talents left a mark on the history of the beautiful game. While it was his work ethic and dedication that took him this far in the league, his grandmother’s support helped him in his youth.

Chef Curry has a unique bond with his grandmother Candy Adams. In a recently released Apple Tv+ documentary Underrated, Curry’s family shared very interesting viewpoints on the stories that made him who he is today.

In the documentary, Curry’s grandmother, Candy Adams, offered a sweet and reassuring reminiscence from his youth. Young Curry had to deal with the difficulty of being picked on and bullied by others when he was growing up because of his diminutive stature.

Adams reflected on those times and said that because of his size, people would have doubted his ability to play basketball in those days. “It was just like a different time, and he was so itty bitty, and everybody was picking on him, and talking about he was too small to play,” she said.

The narrative, however, took a touching turn when Candy Adams recalled an incident that happened during one of Curry’s games. A spectator started calling the young players “Punks” and other derogatory terms.

The grandmother didn’t think twice to confront the bullying. “Say one more thing,” Adams admonished the man, “I bust you in your mouth!”

She was prepared to take action to protect her grandson’s reputation and make sure that no one dared to disparage him. “I was gonna climb over that seat, I told them, ‘Don’t talk about my grandson,” she recalled.

Upon hearing the story, Curry’s mother nodded in agreement and asserted that he was bullied a lot while growing up.

In a 2013 interview with SF Gate, Steph Curry attributed his basketball prowess to his mother Sonya Curry. The Golden State Warriors guard specifically thanked his mother for helping him become more resilient, tough, and gritty. The 2x NBA MVP acknowledged his respect for his tough mother, who raised him and his siblings while Dell was frequently on the road because of his basketball career.

Steph acknowledged the tremendous influence his mother had on the development of his and his brothers’ personalities and credits her with raising them to be successful.

While Sonya Curry gave a lot of insights from his childhood in the Apple TV+ documentary, she had spoken about Curry’s extraordinary confidence and skills, long before the documentary was released.
