As the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at the Wells Fargo Center, their forward Khris Middleton remains out for the game. He has been out since 6th February following a left ankle sprain. The 3X NBA All-Star’s last game was against the Phoenix Suns where he chipped in six points, three rebounds, and one assist. Middleton has since missed seven straight games including a couple of practice sessions.

Coach Doc Rivers had recently reassured everyone that Middleton’s prolonged absence is not a cause for alarm, stressing that he is simply being given enough time to recover. However, things might finally be looking up for the team as senior NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski comes through with the much-awaited good news. He reports that the Bucks fans can expect Middleton back in action by next week.

While reporting for NBA Countdown, Adrian reveals, “I’m told that Khris Middleton could be back as soon as next week. He’s been out since February 6 with that ankle, I’m told there’s still some soreness but he’s tracking well.” He also adds that it is important for the Bucks’ core to be healthy to see any significant boost in the offense. This means having Middleton back on track is crucial, especially ahead of the playoffs.

The former NBA Champion rolled his ankle on the Suns’ forward Kevin Durant’s foot on 6th February. The game was halfway into the first quarter when Middleton took flight from the 3-point line to take a shot and landed on KD’s foot. He immediately fell to the floor clearly in pain. A few minutes later, he left for the locker room.

A healthy core for the win

Adrian shares the Bucks’ GM Jon Horst’s thoughts on the team’s core which includes Giannis, Damian, Brook Lopez, and Middleton. “What encourages him is that he’s starting to see the shape of a team that you need to win in the postseason style of play,” he says. The team is still trying to find the perfect rhythm since the onboarding of Rivers as the new Head Coach. They have played 11 games under his guidance, but the core stars have played only two games together, cut short by Middleton’s injury.

He adds that although the Bucks have improved defensively, they struggle to make a significant impact offensively. However, when the four core players are taking the shots, “the offense is going to go back up.” So, the bottom line is that the team is banking on Middleton’s return as it would undoubtedly help elevate the team’s offense.
