At 36, is Brook Lopez the unsung hero the Bucks desperately need to stay competitive?

Age is just a number. And Brook Lopez proved it last night by scoring a 27-point double-double to lead his team to victory. Their opponents? The Rockets, who headed into the arena aiming to protect their five-game winning streak. But there was a moment during Brook’s historic night that left everyone concerned for his wellbeing as he took a nasty fall that led to him leaving midway through the game. And Giannis Antetokounmpo reflected on the scary moment after the big win.

The incident occurred in the early minutes of the second quarter as Lopez flew in the air to block Amen Thompson’s dunk attempt. Although he got the ball clean during the swat, the Bucks Center hit the deck hard and took major impact on the side of his body.

Sure enough, he looked in visible pain after the fall and asked to be subbed out immediately. And he headed straight to the locker room while Giannis replaced him on the court. Yes, Lopez returned minutes later. But the fall and Brook’s reaction left Giannis concerned as he said postgame, “Yeah, it was bad. Kind of scary fall for him. Not just it was bad, the way he reacted like he got up was like ‘Get me out. Get me out.”

Obviously, The Greek Freak was hoping it was nothing serious, “You know when I got back to the game and subbed him, I was just thinking ‘I hope he’s doing well, because we need him.’” And the Bucks did in fact need Lopez as he ended up being the team’s leading scorer and also got four crucial blocks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo praises Brook Lopez for “doing everything” amid injury concerns

Despite being 36 years old, Brook is constantly proving that he has a lot left in the tank. Moreover, Giannis reminded everyone that tonight was not the first time this season Lopez helped his team win. “He did it today, he did it like two games ago. He’s playing great. He’s knocking down shots, getting in the paint. He’s been a threat. He’s protecting us defensively. He’s doing everything,” said the Bucks star player.

Yes, just two games ago, the Center scored 29 points in the win against the Pistons. And he is averaging over ten points so far. Moreover, the Bucks cannot afford to lose him because they are already dealing with multiple injury concerns. Well, Damian Lillard returned tonight after missing three straight games because of entering concussion protocol. And it is still uncertain when Khris Middleton will make his season debut as he continues to recover from his multiple foot surgeries.
