Another day, another low-scoring game for Bronny James. With the NBA Summer League underway, fans are finally getting to witness the 19-year-old in action. But the rookie’s first couple of games in the Lakers uniform have not been too great, to say the least. Hoping to prove the critics wrong, LeBron’s eldest son was in action once again today as the LA side faced the Heat. But despite his dad multitasking to stay tuned into the offseason game, the teenager’s performance left a lot of the community baffled.

With Team USA set to play their first showcase game against Canada, LeBron had a pretty busy day scheduled ahead of today’s encounter. But that didn’t stop the 4-time champ from cheering for the son as he watched Bronny take the court live on his mobile screen while going through his routine stretches. Completely locked in, LeBron was even seen calling out plays as he watched the game.

Meanwhile, on the court, Bronny was coming off a disappointing four-point performance on his professional debut against the Kings. While the Lakers played one more game the following day against the Warriors, Bronny unfortunately had to sit that one out because of a trace swelling in his left knee. However, his scoring performance did not see a massive improvement today as Bronny finished with only 3 points on 1 of 3 shooting from the field. Although he did not take as many shots as he did on his debut, where he shot 2 of 9, his second straight low-scoring game had the fans doubting his credibility, again.

NBA World divided on Bronny James’ 3-point performance

With Bronny scoring only 3 points against Miami, fans quickly took to social media to criticize the rookie. And one fan even mocked LeBron, saying, “Doing this to watch someone score 3 points is crazy.” While most focused on Bronny’s low-scoring game, many also pointed out that there are other aspects of the game where the Lakers rookie showed great promise. Especially on the defensive end, the 19-year-old did a great job holding down their rival’s offense as he finished with 3 blocks and 2 steals.

One Bronny supporter even posted a clip of the rookie locking down a Miami guard on the perimeter and forcing a turnover. While he might not be an offensive threat, many believe that LeBron’s son has the potential to be a defensive menace like Jrue Holiday or Patrick Beverley. And he showed glimpses of it in today’s game.

Is Bronny James living up to the hype, or is he just riding on LeBron's coattails?

However, not everyone bought into this idea as another fan countered the point by sharing a clip of Bronny getting cooked on defense by Miami’s guard A. Williams, who finished with a game-high 21 points while being guarded by Bronny. In a clip that instantly went viral on the internet, Williams made light work of Bronny as he beat the Lakers rookie with a nasty between the legs spin move to score a tough layup. While Bronny is a gritty defender, his lack of size could be a disadvantage for him on both ends as Williams proved today.

Meanwhile, another netizen claimed, “This comment is definitely gonna age badly. They Lost.” The Lakers have lost all three of their Summer League games so far. Yes, Bronny’s squad was blown out twice in the last three games and lost today’s game by 4 points. So, it is still a bit premature to say how effective Bronny’s defense is, even though it’s not translating into a win in this small sample set. However, Bronny might not be too bothered by the criticism as LeBron recently sang praises of his positive attitude, “I don’t know if people really understand Bronny. He doesn’t care. When I came in as a rookie, I wanted people to like me, and some of the things that people were saying about me kind of bothered me early on in my career… He doesn’t give a f**k. He does not care about nobody. He doesn’t even listen to that stuff. He’s like the coolest.”
