With Bronny linking up with Garland and Clarkson, is he proving he's league-ready?

After entering the league, Bronny James has been unwantedly carrying an invisible target on his back because of the family legacy, and it affected his Summer League debut as well. The 19-year-old could rack up only 7 points on average, with 32.7% shooting from the field and 13% shooting from deep. Overall, he wasn’t miraculously beholding to the audience as they expected. However, a recent routine matchup of the Lakers rookie with NBA stars ignited a bit of hope in fans who believe in LeBron’s legacy, as the youngster showed some promise, leaving them in awe.

Credited to Chris Johnson’s X handle, a video of Bronny James facing Cavaliers point guard Darius Garland and Utah‘s Jordan Clarkson has gone viral. It showcased his defensive and three-point skills to the community. Whether it be dribbling, expanding arms to limit the opponent’s motion, or stepping back and shooting, the 19-year-old did it all, igniting the candle of his infant pro career.

The little snippet did so well with a Lakers fan page, that it re-shared the video with the caption questioning the critics’ opinion, Watch how Bronny’s able hold his own vs Jordan Clarkson and Darius Garland🤷🏽‍♂️. Y’all sure he ain’t league-ready?”

It sure would’ve raised the expectations of JJ Redick and Co. at the Lakers camp. However, the open court performance that Bronny James showcased also highlighted the loopholes in his style of play right now. The 19-year-old, in his matchup against Jazz star Jordan Clarkson, seemed to be unable to move freely as he mostly opted for jumper shots when confronting the Jazz star.

Also, the ball-handling by Bronny James looked much slower, making it prone to be stolen while playing on the biggest stage. But the fans seemed to be impressed with LeBron’s son’s growth as they showered their thoughts on the video snippet.

Bronny James’ uplifting scrimmage clip draws Jrue Holiday and future Championship caliber comparisons

As the Bronny James clip playing in an open court matchup with the NBA players took over the internet, fans began to praise his efforts to get better. One of the Lakers fans on X commented, “Invaluable experiences for Bronny. Keep learning, get better every day.” It is not every day that you get to play offensive guards like Jordan Clarkson and manage to face Darius Garland’s quick drive head-on! That’s why the fan appreciated the Lakers rookie’s hunger and had hope for the greater good.

Another fan pointed out Bronny James’ effectiveness and value as a player as they commented, “He’s a defensive point guard, do yall not know how rare that is to find in the nba rn.” Being a defensive point guard is a great asset to a team that needs someone moving the ball and also looking after the rim. More than directly participating in scoring, they create chances leading to more production on the offensive end. And Bronny here was learning from Darius Garland himself, who stood 3rd in 2022-23 defensive guard ratings.

A netizen pointed out the choice of players that Bronny James had opted for, “This is all Bronny has to keep doing! Keep putting in the work with guys like-minded.” Smartly, King James’ son was practicing with the players who shared the same position on the court. It ensures reduced pressure along with getting expert guidance while learning from the greats before the season begins.

A fan compared Bronny to reining Champion, Jrue Holiday, as they commented, “Bronny really do have similarities to jrue holiday deadass.” Jrue is one of the best guards in the country right now with his strength on the defensive end. His lateral quickness and the extreme athletic matchup resemble Bronny James’ future game (at least what the hopeful fans aspire to see), as he also did a post-spin in the snippet highlighting his physical prowess.

Amid all the praise, there was a fan who found the fault in Bronny, as he commented, “Buddy need to drive to the basket.” It was the same as the aforementioned point that he drove slower, compelling him to make the jumpers, which reduced the impact of his plays. However, even if he wants to turn into a 3-and-D role player, the youngster needs to get better with his quick releases. In California and Las Vegas, he managed to only make 3 out of his 23 attempts from deep range, something that could cost an NBA team heavily.

After all, Bronny sure is LeBron James’ son. He’s got the genes and has displayed some touch, barring the mechanical issues. Although he has the sheer will to grow, the 19-year-old does not hold a lot of experience because of the lack of enough college exposure.
