Bronny James and LeBron had their big moment that the world was waiting for. The cameras came out at the Crypto.com Arena in the Lakers’ opening game and rightfully so to capture the historic moment of father-son duo’s debut. But there could be a few more big moments left with Bronny James involved. And as it stands the Lakers are ready to embrace those moments and wait to make a decision on Bronny’s G League future.
As per Shams Charania and Dave McMenamin’s sources, Bronny will be expected to split between the Lakers and its G League affiliate, South Bay Lakers once the team returns from their 5-game road trip on November 6.

Shams took ESPN’s center stage to explain the likely circumstances regarding Bronny. After the two games against the Suns and Kings, the Lakers would start their road journey on October 28 where the young guard will accompany them. “That includes a momentous game potentially on Wednesday in Cleveland, a homecoming for LeBron James and Bronny James, and he will be on this trip,” the Insider said.
Among all these games, the Cavs one at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse will be a special one for the James duo. As the kid from Ohio who turned into “The Man” in Cleveland, LeBron has special ties with the city. His son Bronny also shares the same sentiment, be it to a lesser degree. LeBron made his presence felt in that same arena during the 2024 Playoffs when he made a surprise visit. But this time it will be special as Bronny will have the chance to share court with him when the sides play.
He further stated that it is uncertain whether Bronny will participate in all of those games. After facing the Grizzlies at the FedExForum, the Lakers would return to Los Angeles and take decision on Bronny’s future. “I am told he will begin his shuttle from the NBA to the G League. He will be assigned to South Bay, that week of November 7th when the G League season starts,” Shams continued. “And for him and Rich Paul, the big aspect of Bronny James throughout the pre-draft process was his development, and he was not afraid.”

The only question raised was whether Bronny would get the two-way contract. Shams answered that too, “He gets that 4-year contract, 3 of those years guaranteed.” Now Bronny and his agent, Paul will be on board if the franchise feels it necessary to assign him to South Bay. Even Daddy James seemed open to the idea.

LeBron shows green signal to Bronny James’ move to the G League
During the Lakers media day, when LeBron was inquired about Bronny’s rookie season, the 4-time champion appeared positive about his son’s possible movement. “Just [looking forward to] seeing him continue to grow as a basketball player no matter if it’s here with us or if it’s down with the G League team,” LeBron told the media.

He expressed that his sole desire is for Bronny to improve his basketball abilities. LeBron expects his son to work hard, as many have suggested, and get better like the rest of the team members. So that they can hold him accountable for his mistakes and vice versa. The 39-year-old concluded by saying, “And if we all do that, we all get better, because we’re all one team. We’re a reflection of South Bay; South Bay is a reflection of us.”
Despite the controversies surrounding his Lakers draft and consequent debut, Bronny has shown the promise to become a part of the franchise’s rotation plans. But his move to G League can give him some extra time to sharpen his skills, the time he lost during the recovery of his cardiac situation. Under the tutelage of Zach Guthrie, there can only be positives for the 20-year-old and that makes the most sense in the current scenario.
