All eyes are on Bronny James as he stands at a crossroads in his career. The 19-year-old’s freshman season at USC is not unfolding as many might have envisioned. To compound matters, his draft stock has been consistently dropping and has now reached a point where he isn’t even included in ESPN’s 2024 mock draft and is instead projected to be a second-round pick in 2025. However, despite what the mock drafts say, the reality is that the teams wouldn’t want to pass up on the possibility of roping in LeBron James.
James, for his part, has been clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to be on the same team as Bronny, even stating that money isn’t a sticking point. So, who wouldn’t want LBJ on a discount for two seasons? As per James Skrmetta, teams like the New Orleans Pelicans would consider picking Bronny in the draft if it came with a packaged deal with the Pops. James has a $51.4 million player option for next season, so if the Pels draft Bronny, LeBron could pair up with Zion Williamson in New Orleans.

The deal would also bode well for James’ legacy. If he doesn’t win one this season, he will be hoping for a fifth ring before bowing out. The Pelicans are playing their best basketball right now, sitting fifth in the West with the longest winning streak in the league. They are also one of the four league teams in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. And the major reason behind their success has been the resurgence of Zion Williamson.

Despite concerns over his health at the beginning of the season, the 2019 first-overall pick is averaging 22.3 points in his last ten games. He’s also recorded two blocks in half of those games and at least seven assists in seven contests. Therefore, the addition of James could potentially propel them to a title, given his track record of winning a championship with every team he’s been on. But in the end, that’s all it is—a possibility.
LeBron James’ future with the Lakers
As things currently stand, it appears that James is aiming to remain in Los Angeles alongside his son, Bronny. Reports suggest that he is negotiating a multi-year, nine-figure contract with the Lakers, one that could potentially extend his career to age 42. Additionally, there have been rumblings about the Lakers being open to the idea of adding Bronny James as suggested in an article by the Atletic, to their roster next season.

If such a deal comes to fruition, it would be ideal for the father-son duo. James’ dream to share the NBA spotlight with Bronny on the same team comes true. Moreover, he also avoids the hassle of moving to a new location. Meanwhile, Bronny enters the league and continues to develop his skills alongside his dad. And the Lakers get to keep James.
