Can Kevin Durant's NFL dreams ever match his basketball legacy, or is it just wishful thinking?

Six regular-season games and three NBA Cup games—that’s the minimum number of games Kevin Durant will miss due to his current injury situation. Just when things started to look sunny, KD’s left calf strain cast a shadow on Phoenix. With the 118-127 loss to the Kings last night, the frailty in the Suns side showed without Durant. But that wasn’t the only blow the Slim Reaper suffered.

The Commanders’ 27-28 defeat to the Steelers too had probably crushed Durant, and his teammate Bradly Beal‘s wife, Kamiah Adams didn’t miss the opportunity to add salt to the wound. She shared a screenshot of the final score on her Instagram story, tagging both KD and another account (@vtdvito). She captioned, “Ohhhhhhh (crying emojis) BLACK & YELLOW!” Durant received a jab he wouldn’t forget easily—and one he’d likely be eager to repay if he gets the chance.

Before the weekend’s games, Kay Adams asked Durant for his predictions for Game Week 10 on the Up & Adams show. When it came to the Commanders vs. Steelers game, Durant laughed and replied, “Come on K, just don’t even ask for that pick” (at 1:04 minute). The 36-year-old confidently predicted that his team would win by three. Well, that prediction certainly backfired.

Both teams entered Sunday’s game on three-game win streaks and were eager to extend their runs. However, QB Russell Wilson made sure their visit to Northwest Stadium was a successful one, leaving Durant’s parley fruitless.

Had basketball not fascinated him so much, Kevin Durant would certainly have tried his luck in the NFL. Since that plan didn’t pan out, he compensates by closely following the games. While he follows most teams, his love for the Commanders runs a bit deeper. Given that he’s from Washington, it all makes perfect sense.

Can Kevin Durant's NFL dreams ever match his basketball legacy, or is it just wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

Although he can’t be part of the sport as a player, Durant stays actively involved as a partner of FanDuel. He’s often seen predicting and discussing various aspects of the games on social media with Adams. But KD doesn’t want to stop there, he has also expressed a strong desire to own a team one day.

“Love to own a team” – Kevin Durant once opened up about his future dream

While his contemporaries, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, have made their intentions to own an NBA team clear, Kevin Durant has expressed a desire to take a different path, one that leads to the NFL. Owning a team in the league seemed like an idea he is looking forward to pursuing.

“I’d definitely love to own a team,” Durant revealed his interest to Matthew Berry of ESPN in an interview in 2015. “Hopefully one of these years towards the end of my career.” Not only that, he even disclosed which team he would eye. “My first priority would be the Washington Redskins,” KD said mentioning that even a small percent of it wouldn’t hurt. All he wanted back then was to be “involved.”

As a child, Durant lived just five minutes from the team’s stadium, so he grew up a fan. While talking about it he even revealed that he has their logo tattooed on his forearm, which made him feel a deep connection to the franchise. Hopefully, he’ll be able to fulfill his dream someday, but for now, based on his performance for the Phoenix team before being sidelined, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be hanging up his boots anytime soon.
