While most would assume that fans remain firmly in their favorite athlete’s corner, the reality is far more fickle. While most fans’ hopes saw Dame leave the Portland Trailblazers, few saw a union with the Milwaukee Bucks incoming. As a result, his pairing with Giannis Antetokounmpo has drawn a lot of ire. But, things took a truly nasty turn once the next bit of news came in.

Damian Lillard and the case of divorces

Just days after his move to the Bucks, Lillard is once again in the news. This time around, the reasons are far different. Ahn Fire Digital broke the news of the superstar filing for divorce from his wife, Kay’La Lillard.

The news came as doubly shocking due to the length of their relationship. While the two took their vows relatively recently, in 2021, the pair has been together since Damian’s days at Webster State as a college athlete. The duo have three children together, Damian Jr. who is 5, and twins, Kalii and Kali, who came into the world just months before their wedding.

So, to see news of the duo separating after such a long time was truly a shocker. The source, AFD, claimed that the divorce was due to ‘irreconcilable differences’ between the couple. As a result, it led to the “irremediable breakdown of their marriage.”

Just days after a different “divorce”, the pattern seems to be following Dame Dolla around. Throughout the summer, the Damian Lillard trade saga was an ongoing point of discussion. While Lillard made his choice with the Miami Heat perfectly clear, the Trailblazers weren’t on board. As a result, a long, drawn-out battle of wills ensued. Eventually, the 7-time All-Star was even ready to return. However, Portland said no to that offer as well. While the Bucks weren’t his ideal spot, with the Brooklyn Nets serving as a backup option, the fit is basketball nirvana.

But, fans weren’t as easy on last year’s three-point contest champion. Instead, they were quick to qualify him as ‘selfish’. With the latest reports of his divorce with Kay’La coming in, things took a rather drastic turn.

“You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Those immortal words are what Lillard is experiencing firsthand. Long seen as a dying breed, he is now the enemy rather than the hero. As such, the fans have been harsh in their assessment of the superstar.

The most common assessment was the same. A callback to the infamous Damian comment to Paul George about “running from the grind” came back in full swing, with multiple people using the same analogy.

Some people went truly nasty, alluding to the Scottie and Larsa Pippen drama, with talks of a prenup in the middle.

One fan was more direct in calling out the former Trailblazer. His shot was far more direct at Dame’s alleged ‘loyalty’.
