“We’re willing to spill blood on the court,” – the major declaration of utmost patriotism showed the mettle of a hardened leader and that was enough to thrill Claude Joseph Rouget. And it was Victor Wembanyama, the 20-year-old who was behind the speech. But things were far from the glorious dream as each Stephen Curry bucket dealt a hammer blow to Wemby’s heart, ultimately leaving him in tears after the buzzer. And this is where he took it personally.
After taking the NBA by storm in his rookie year, there’s only one way for Wemby and that’s up. By the time the next Olympics comes around, he’ll be 24 and that’s the thing scaring two NBA legends who were dealing bad news for Team USA.
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett came together for their Ticket and The Truth podcast. After discussing the Paris Olympics, their focus shifted towards the next edition. And what they envisioned was far from encouraging. Pierce raised the alarm and said, “I hate to say this but USA Basketball is in trouble on 28…Because now it ain’t gonna probably be no LeBron, no Curry, no KD.” KG also chimed in to highlight the threat of Victor Wembanyama who’ll be entering his prime years in 2028. “So I’m anticipating Wemby getting better…When Wemby simplifies his game,” Garnett said.

He also prescribed a possible remedy for the Victor Wembanyama problem and said, “So I’m saying this to say that the closest thing we got to kind of offset that is Chet. So Chet’s gonna get better…Bam, he’s a big that was there.” Wemby vs Holmgren has been a rookie rivalry from the past season. Despite Chet finishing top seed in the west, Wemby to the ROTY award with opinions divided everywhere apart from the voting.

The 7’1″ center is the only giant in Team USA’s current players’ pool or among those who would potentially be considered for the next Olympic team. Apart from that, Bam Adebayo is another option who had an impressive campaign this year. There are question marks over Joel Embiid’s fitness and his plans at 34 when the event comes to Los Angeles. But the overall picture painted by the NBA legends was concerning, to say the least.

With Steve Kerr vacating his role as Team USA HC, there will be a hunt for his replacement. According to KG and PP, Anthony Edwards will be the face of the team alongside Tyrese Haliburton. They were unsure about Jayson Tatum’s return following his controversial campaign, and the same can be said about Jaylen Brown, who’s engaged in warfare with Nike.
Zion Williamson’s name came up along with Devin Booker and Jrue Holiday. “I’m expecting all the guys that were on there to, you know, this year. But think about it, when Anthony Davis goes back he’s gonna be the OG… If they bring Holiday back because the guards play you gotta have gritty guards that can get up and pressure you,” Garnett added. But even after assembling their predicted cast, Pierce was far from sure about Team USA’s bid for gold, that too without LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant. The question remained- will that be enough to stop a matured Victor Wembanyama? Share your thoughts and feel free to make your super early predictions!
