For someone hungry to win in every game, injuries and benching are the ultimate nightmares. No contribution in an important match and the frustration begins to reflect on the face. Jaylen Brown is one such player who hates missing games. However, his recent knee injury has been an absolute nuisance that’s not just affecting his game but also affecting his mental wellbeing.
JB returned to the court after a three-game rest on March 25 against the Phoenix Suns. He scored a solid 24 points in the Boston Celtics’ 132-102 win. But after the game, he shared his true mental state. Brown emphasized that he was still working his way back. “My body still doesn’t feel 100%, but today was a good step in the right direction,” he confessed. Jaylen’s honest confession doesn’t even begin to cover half the concerns that the C’s are feeling now.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics insider Noa Dalzell recently shared on X: “My main concern for this team heading into the postseason is just Jaylen Brown potentially playing through a knee injury that was deemed a bone bruise with posterior impingement in his right knee. We haven’t gotten a lot of details about it. I don’t really know if it’s something that is expected to get better.”

Dalzell clarified that Jaylen Brown’s right knee injury, labeled a bone bruise with posterior impingement, is a concern heading into the postseason. Moreover, there’s little clarity on whether it will improve. Playing through it could affect his performance, and that could wound Joe Mazzulla’s masterplan, that is, if any. Discussing the Suns game and JB’s postgame statement, the insider added: “There’s a mental-slash-confidence aspect that he’s trying to align because he’s not used to playing like this. He said himself that he expects to have to play through this heading into the playoffs.”
Sadly, this is Jaylen Brown’s reality right now. He’s playing through the pain, and no one knows if it’ll get better—or worse. Is pushing through the right call? That’s the gamble. But at this point, what else can you do? Meanwhile, Brown is doing everything to stay on the court (of course!). That’s his pride. He knows that missing time now could hurt his rhythm later.
So he is pushing through, believing the grind matters more than rest. However, there’s a mental battle here, too, and it might be the biggest fight of all. Because, as Noa Dalzell put it, “You don’t want to sit out a couple of weeks, come into the playoffs, feel rusty, feel out of rhythm, and still have the bone bruise, right?” That’s the risk. And JB seems willing to take it. Meanwhile, the Celtics HC, Joe Mazzulla, has dropped a word or two for his superstar guard amidst the injury woes.

Joe Mazzulla’s clear message on Jaylen Brown’s return and injuries ahead of the Celtics playoff run
The Boston Celtics extended their win streak to eight with a 121-111 victory over the Spurs. Now at 55-19, they are closing in on 60 wins once again. Only eight games remain, and the mission stays the same. Teams do not receive back-to-back titles. They earn them. For only the 21st time this season, Boston had its ideal starting five on the floor. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Derrick White. JT returned after missing two games. JB was just three games into his comeback from a knee injury.
After Saturday’s victory, reporters asked head coach Joe Mazzulla about Brown’s status and how the team is managing his injury. “You trust him, you trust the sports science team, you trust the trainers. You trust him taking care of the body, and he’s doing everything he can to be available—and he takes pride in that,” Mazzulla firmly said.
