What is a sacroiliac strain?

The sacroiliac joints, also known as SI joints, join the sacrum with the two iliac bones of the pelvis at the spine’s base. The joints help play a crucial role in providing support to the body’s weight and helping in the motion of the hips. These bones are wrapped with robust ligaments, holding them together.

In cases of strain, repetitive motions can stretch or tear the supporting ligaments. Usually, typical signs of a sacroiliac sprain are tingling, numbness, hip/groin pain, and pelvis/buttock pain. Athletes, however, usually experience the pain around their lower back or upper buttocks. Nevertheless, the pain can expand in a few cases, extending the pain near the thighs and hindering basic tasks like walking.

Jaylen Brown’s injury can come from a direct hit, a fall, or overuse of repetitive twisting and motions. Regardless, with proper care, rest, and necessary medication, the sprain usually wears off in a few days. This suggests that even if Brown does not take to the court in Denver, all will be well for Boston in the coming games.
