Zion Williamson isn’t going anywhere

The Pelicans have not made any noise with their moves in the ongoing NBA offseason so far. However, the trade rumors regarding Zion Williamson caught the NBA world’s attention. Fans began assuming that Williamson will play in different colors next season. But David Griffin shunned these assumptions.

In a recent interview during the NBA Summer League, Griffin was asked about the former No.1 draft pick’s relationship with the Pelicans. “I would say it’s as good as it’s ever been actually,” he replied.

He later explained, “I think what’s unfortunate is, he is a name that generates clicks no matter what the link says….and so it makes it really easy for people to manufacture a rumor around him“. He further claimed, “Reality doesn’t matter anymore. Generating clicks matters…. We never had a single conversation that Zion was part of.”

However, he acknowledged why fans assumed the franchise would be moving on from Williamson. “I think people perceived that we would be willing to move off of Zion….fortunately for us, the noise never actually matches what we’re really experiencing,” he said.

Given the narratives surrounding him, more of such performances will be expected of him by the Pelicans franchise.
