Is Brandon Podziemski ready to fill Klay Thompson's shoes, or is this a disaster waiting to happen?

Joe Lacob has always been a prime advocate for Brandin Podziemski when it comes to trading him for Lauri Markkanen. It was one of the most buzzing off-season trade proposals. However, the Golden State Warriors executive was not ready to sacrifice the “potential All-Star.” Now, since the Podziemski trade has not taken place yet, it seems that the 21-year-old will continue to be aspirational with the Dubs squad. However, isn’t it too much considering the age of the young shooting guard?

As per a media interaction broadcast on ‘95.7 The Game,’ Brandin Podziemski confessed that he “didn’t have this feeling of getting better as much as I did this year or this offseason I should say since my junior to senior of high school.” But that was not the end there. It seems the Dubs have been training Podziemski to be their key asset in the future. “For me, I’m feeling really good. Took out the floaters, took out the hook shots. Kinda put in more mid-range stuff, more threes off the dribble, more threes off the catch,” Podz shed light on his training this offseason.

“So just adding different things and then defensively trying to take that challenge being out there with Steph every night, “ it looks like the Warriors have already found a successor to ascend Klay Thompson‘s throne. After Klay’s departure, Dubs’ major concern has always been a permanent replacement for the legendary shooting guard. However, ‘95.7 The Game’ hosts Evan Giddings and Dan Devone felt like it was too much responsibility from Podziemski’s age standpoint. “A lot of pressure on that kid. If he’s really the reason why they wouldn’t move off on him to get Paul George and or Lauri Markkanen. Well, brother, you better show us why.”

Co-host Dan Devone agreed with Giddings’ point as he added, “I think the Warriors, not including him and all of that information leaking out, I think they’ve kind of put him in an unfair spot to be honest. …I think he is going to be expected to be the starting shooting guard.” As per Devone, that’ll be “a lot of pressure” on Podziemski since he’ll be filling in the shoes of future Hall of Famers.

If what’s happening at Dubs is wrong or ‘unfair,’ what can be done to make it right?

How can Joe Lacob put Brandin Podziemski into a fair situation?

The Bay Area veterans knew that the number two on the Dubs roster next season would be a Klay Thompson substitute. However, this post should not be a permanent post. The same thought rushed through Giddings’ mind. “I think that thing should be wide open. It should be just like a summer tryout. …It’s not in bold type I’ll put Podziemski as the number two.” In contrast to it, Joe Lacob has put Brandin Podziemski into the limelight. Rather, it should have been a competition for a spot between Moody and Podz.

The size difference between Moody and Podziemski is not too much. Podz stands at 1.92 m with 92 Kg weight, while Moody stands at 1.96m with 95 Kg. The ability that Moses can offer as a guard can be a competitor for Brandin Podziemski. However, he needs to be up for the task. The Dubs’ shooting guard [Podz] is already putting in work, and Moody is in the last year of his contract. If he wants to cash a big check from the Warriors front office, he must rise up to the occasion.

Last year, Moody averaged 8.1 points and 3 assists in comparison to Podz’s 9.2 points and 5.8 assists. However, Brandin Podziemski got to appear in 74 games last season. Rather, Moses Moody only got 66 games to play. Also, it will put some pressure off the shoulders of Brandin Podziemski in the long run. Not only will the Dubs get two reliable shooting guards but also competitive ones.

Giddings was even ready to give Andrew Wiggins a chance for the post. However, he is more of a scorer rather than a guard. He justifies his position as a small forward as he averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists last season. Also, despite his height advantage at 2.01 m, his weight is a demerit. On top of that, his frame doesn’t feel as large as other players on the roster. Even Giddings agreed that Wiggins was “too small at the guard spot.”

So Joe Lacob might be going too hard on a player of a young caliber. No doubt, Klay Thompson wasn’t in the last two years as he used to be. However, his departure has not left a small void. Also, he still tried to deliver as per his reputation. If it’s the hush that the Dubs front office is going with for getting a championship, that’ll be a mistake. They’ll destroy the hopes of the future if they focus too much on Curry’s fairy-tale retirement. What do you all think about this move of Joe Lacob, taking Brandin Podziemski as the new Klay?
