The Celtics remain undefeated. With high expectations to repeat what they achieved last year, they are off to a hot start this season. And the Cs continued that form tonight as they got a hard-fought win against the Bucks. Sure enough, it was a heated battle from the get-go and even led to Joe Mazzulla getting a technical foul from Tony Brothers as he constantly chirped at the officials all night. But it was all part of the head coach’s strategy!

Well, the incident occurred during the third quarter after the Celtics got called for a shotclock violation. But the home team argued the call because Jrue Holiday’s shot attempt hit the side of the rim right before the timer went off. However, the referees stayed with the initial decision. Sure enough, Mazzulla was not pleased and continued pleading his case from the sidelines, eventually leading Brothers to penalize him with tech for causing a delay in the game.

Addressing his emotions after the game, Mazzulla stated, “No, no frustration. We were just trying to create as much chaos as we can. That was it.” Yes, with his team trailing by a point at the time, the head coach thought that was the best thing to do. “I just felt like that’s what the environment needed at the time. Just create chaos so we’re just gonna create it.” Sure enough, Brothers, who was voted the ‘best ref’ in the league last year in a survey of 108 NBA players, did not like the chaos and acted accordingly.

Although the tech-led to more free throws for the Bucks, the strategy eventually paid off as the Celtics kept their winning streak alive by sneaking an eleven-point victory. “Just created the chaos together and went through the chaos together, and we responded pretty well,” Mazzulla added.

Joe Mazzulla claims he ‘Likes’ yelling at the refs as Jayson Tatum joins him

Is Joe Mazzulla's chaos strategy the secret weapon behind the Celtics' unstoppable winning streak?

Surprisingly, Mazzulla was not the only one to get a tech tonight. Even Jayson Tatum picked up the penalty in the same quarter after expressing his frustration at the refs for multiple calls he believed were incorrect. But the superstar did not bother the head coach by voicing his emotions, “I mean, I like yelling at those guys, too. So, I’m certainly not gonna stop him from doing it. But if he stops executing our system and our defense, that’s when it becomes more of an issue. But I think he kind of stayed there most of the time.”

More importantly, Mazzulla was pleased with JT’s performance despite his 15-point outing, “I think he did maintain his poise. I mean he maintained his poise from the standpoint of, he played defense, he rebounded, he guarded Brook Lopez, he ran the plays, [and] he executed them.”

Well, it is clear the most important thing for Joe is winning games and it doesn’t matter to him if he has to get some techs along the way to achieve that goal. And that passion is what helped the Celtics win the championship last season. Do you agree?
