Stephen Curry is back in action on the big screens. No, the talk isn’t about his Paris Olympics journey. Curry is returning with a basketball documentary built around “one of the most dominant basketball players of all time”. But wait, the Chef already has a documentary, ‘Underrated’ which is available to view on Apple TV. So who is Curry referring to?
Making his acting debut, Stephen Curry will star in Peacock’s new mockumentary ‘Mr. Throwback’. The story revolves around Curry’s sixth-grade friend Danny Grossman, whose life spiraled for the worse. The tale takes the audience through a journey of his redemption arc, the key of which lies with the Warriors ace. Curry will play himself in the series. The four-time champion released the official trailer on his social media, and it promises to be a unique experience judging from the characters.

“Being around Stephen Curry is intoxicating. I mean this was supposed to be my life,” Grossman says in one of the scenes. The trailer also features other noteworthy moments such as Curry drinking horse placenta, Grossman caught in his life troubles and also being a bigger star coming up than the beloved Baby Face Assassin himself.
Apart from Stephen Curry, Adam Pally will play Danny Grossman, the protagonist of the movie. Other actors include SNL’s Ego Nwodim and Ayden Mayeri, Tracy Letts, Layla Scalisi, Tien Tran, and Rich Sommer. Curry’s Unanimous Media company will join the project as executive producer and the show will be directed by David Wain, an expert comedian and writer.

Curry is no stranger to having a camera shoved up his face. He is one of the most meteoric athletes in the world with ample media training. Additionally, he also exposed his raw side during his documentary ‘Underrated’ which went through his life and rise from being an overlooked prospect to basketball’s most lethal weapon.

But Mr. Throwback will be the first time Curry gets to act. And he is excited to share the experience with his fans.
“I was excited to step into the world of scripted comedy with ‘Mr. Throwback,’ a story with love for family and friends at its center. “I’m looking forward to viewers getting to see me play a version of myself no one has ever seen before, and hope they feel connected to the characters and the dilemmas they face throughout the series,” he said in a press conference about the new release.
