Is LeBron James right to quit social media, or should he fight the negativity head-on?

Social media can be a boon or a bane for some. It’s not like you have a choice in how people react. But we’ve just gotten to know one high-profile celebrity who quit social media or is preparing to take a break. It’s none other than LeBron James! The Los Angeles Lakers legend took to his Instagram handle to announce he’s quitting social media for the distant future. His 159 million Instagram fans also got the big update from his X account, which boasts 52.9 million followers, on an IG story. What happened?

Bron wrote, “And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care ✌🏾👑.”

It was breaking news to see the Laker quit social media and re-share, KD’s agent, Rich Kleiman’s October post on media reporter, Brian Windhorst. Rich had mentioned, “Start reporting only the facts” to Windy regarding Durant’s Olympic injury report.

“With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of National sports media still think that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes. We can all acknowledge that sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. So why can’t the coverage do the same?” tweeted Kleiman in October.

The post continued, “It’s only click bait when you say it. When the platform is so big, you can make the change and allow us all an escape from real life negativity. I for one find it all a waste of breath. The Olympics and JJ and Bron’s show was the future of what this can and should all be.”

Sharing this post of Rich Kleiman on the negativity surrounding the media, LeBron James captioned it, “Amen!! Damn shame what it’s come to!” Hence, LeBron James decided to quit X and IG for some time and is unsure when he will return.

This whole fiasco started with the Olympic report of Windhorst.

Have an interesting take?

Brian Windhorst had mentioned, “I think (Team USA is) going to be playing Serbia without Kevin Durant.” Back then, the hoopster called out Windy in a post on X but eventually took it off. Even Richard Kleiman replied, “Not true.” In turn, even the media veteran backtracked and acknowledged his oversight in a later injury update interview. It was clear that KD had a lingering right calf strain issue. In reality, the hoopster had missed Team USA’s exhibition games before the tournament. So, there were concerns.

However, with all the reports of Kevin Durant missing the matchup, Rich Kleiman reported he “feels great” and looked forward to competing in the opening game. The reality was he came off the bench against Serbia and put on a fine performance. He scored 23 points, shooting 8-9 from the field and scoring 5-5 three-pointers.

Steve Kerr had also assured, “There’s no thought of replacing Kevin.” Hence, yes, KD played the game. LeBron James, on the other hand, couldn’t take it all in anymore, recalling Rich Kleiman’s comments on social media, while deciding to take a sabbatical from social media. There is no specific timeline for the player to come back to tweet his opinions. Get back LeBron. We need you!
