The NBA has been crushing it this season, with viewership jumping an insane 84% compared to last year on networks like ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Disney+, and ESPN+. They’re now averaging 5.25 million viewers per game. But hold up, Netflix dropped a bombshell—Christmas Gameday smashed records, racking up 65 million U.S. viewers, according to Nielsen. Not only is NFL beating NBA in viewership, it also indirectly scared Paul George.

On 22th December, the Eagles’ win over the Washington Commanders secured them a spot in Super Bowl LIX, sending Philly fans into an absolute frenzy. Picture this: Broad Street turned into a giant celebration, with fireworks lighting up the sky and chants echoing across blocks. But George, didn’t quite expect this. The 76ers forward tried to drive through the fan-packed street, only to find himself stuck in the middle of the madness.

On Podcast P, PG opened up about this incident. “I was just trying to get home.” Simple enough, right? Wrong. “I had to ultimate, like because the way to get to where I live, like the street was closed off.” With streets blocked off, Paul had no choice but to go further, only to face more roadblocks. Ultimately the 76ers forward to had call upon those who have sworn “To Protect and To Serve”.

“Hey man I live right here, is there any chance y’all can get me over here?” asked Paul to a Police officer. The officer recognized Paul, and that’s when the chaos truly began. “Yeah. And so that’s when that’s the moment all the fans saw me because once the police officer helped me out, that’s when all the fans like rushed the car because I had rolled the window down.”

The situation escalated quickly, and soon George was surrounded by excited fans. “They beating on my car. It was a lot of people, bro. It was a lot of people and it was just coming from all over the place, you know, like in the zombies movies and it’s just like hordes of people.” Scary right? Man was just trying to get home.

Thankfully he reached his home safe and sound. But his commute might change. He might have to get a place in the Bay Area.

Paul George’s name is floating around the NBA trade rumor mill, with teams like the Golden State Warriors showing interest despite his recent underwhelming performances. Still, the 76ers may choose to keep him past the February 6 trade deadline, according to insider Sean Barnard. He believes the Sixers value relationships and may stick to their word, “My guess would be the Sixers prioritize the relationship side of things and stick to their word of not moving Paul George this soon into the contract.”

Barnard also emphasized the challenge the Sixers face in signing high-profile free agents, noting, “It has not been easy for Philadelphia to sign top tier free agent and Morey threaded the needle in creating the max for PG.” If there’s buyer’s remorse, a trade opportunity could be in play.

But with Philly aiming to build around Joel Embiid, holding onto George might make more sense than pulling the trigger on a deal that brings in players like Andrew Wiggins or Buddy Hield. The bigger problem? George’s hefty contract, worth over $50 million annually for the next three seasons.

If the 76ers wait too long and George’s performance doesn’t improve, moving him next offseason could prove difficult. As always, the clock is ticking, and the 76ers have some big decisions ahead.
