The Los Angeles Lakers got decimated by Joel Embiid and Co. in tonight’s game. It was a tough night for the Lakers as nothing was going in their favor. LA Lakers guard Austin Reaves scored only 12 points and shot 1 of 4 from beyond the arc in tonight’s loss against the Sixers. After the game, Reaves stated the obvious about the Lakers’ underwhelming performance and why they got dominated by the 76ers on all facets of the game, “They made a lot of 3s, we didn’t. They beat the sh*t out of us. I don’t know.” Reaves did not have a clue what hit the Lakers tonight. Thanks to Philly’s lockdown defense, LA shot an abysmal 7 of 28 from the three-point line. Their shooting struggles led to a huge difference between them and the Sixers.

Joel Embiid and Co. attempted significantly more three-pointers and made 22 of their 46 attempts. Sixers’ three-point makes were nearly as much as Lakers’ shot attempts. That is a 45-point difference just off three-pointers. 8 of the Sixers players who played tonight made at least one three-pointer in the game. Even role players like Patrick Beverley and Marcus Morris Sr. made 4 three-pointers each.

The Lakers’ inconsistency might create problems in the future

LeBron James and Co. have been highly inconsistent this season. They shoot lights out in some games and struggle horrendously in others. The Lakers need to be more consistent if they want to make a run for the title. Injuries have plagued their season, which has hampered their defense significantly. And if the Lakers cannot get going offensively, their opponents can easily score on them on the other end.

Their weakness was evident in tonight’s blowout loss against the Sixers. Lakers’ opponents are exploiting their lack of coverage on the perimeter, leading to easy and wide-open shots. LA needs to get its act together and recover before it is too late to salvage the situation. LeBron James and Co. are ranked 12th on defense this season and need to aim for the Top 10 spot if they are seeking long-term success.
