Being a famous person comes with good things as well as some bad things. Yes, there’s the possibility of a better life and more opportunities. But having the public’s eye on you at all times can have a huge negative impact on the person and their family. It can be a bit overwhelming when there are so many expectations.

Sonya Curry knows firsthand what it is like to be famous. Some may know her as the wife of Dell Curry. But she is more popularly known as the mother of NBA players, Stephen Curry and Seth Curry. In 2022, she published a memoir titled “Fierce Love: A Memoir of Family, Faith, and Purpose.” The book chronicled her journey as a mother and educator, and the challenges and triumphs she has faced along the way.

What does it take to be an NBA wife?

Sonya was on Jemele is Unbothered podcast to promote the book. During the talk, she spoke about the different boxes that partners of NBA players are forced into. She explained, “Well, for a long time, I fought it. I said, ‘I’m Sonya’”.

The mother of three founded the Christian Montessori School of Lake Norman in Huntersville, North Carolina in 1995. This was a time when her kids, Stephen Curry, Seth, and Sydel, were still very young. Later, she decided to take a break and focus on being there for her family. But then she realized that it didn’t make her very happy.

She also touched on how people would ask her husband to “be weary of women.” She clarified that rather than trying to instill fear in people, it’s better to “talk to them about what they need to do to help solidify their families and their futures and partners they’re gonna have and train him that way”.
