“Yeeeeaaaahhhhh Q!! They know who 41 is now” LeBron was all praise for Quincy Olivari after his 11-point haul in preseason. It wasn’t the only instance. From coming in as an undrafted rookie to receiving a two-way contract, the 23-year-old has certainly come a long way. And it’s safe to say that he’s even earned the respect of Bronny James’ dad. As a result, before Olivari made his G League debut, LeBron dropped advice, again. While this may have helped him, Quincy wanted to send his flowers to his teammate instead.
After the South Bay Lakers-Salt Lake City Stars game, Quincy Olivari engaged in a Q&A with the media. The hoopster found it ironic that the first part of the advice that LeBron James handed out to him was to “Take advantage of your breaks.”
At the same time, the veteran was entrusting Olivari to handle the leadership role, as the latter revealed, “Make sure that guys are organized. When we out there, put them in position, cause people gonna look to me, I know what I’m talking about as far as the setup of offense (goes). As long as I’m respectful, people will listen.” Having followed that advice, one would expect the hoopster to give a review of his own performance. Instead, Olivari spent his time discussing Bronny James, who’s faced a lot of scrutiny.

“To have Bronny James out there looking like how we did, I was just happy to see him get out there and show them where he can play,” he said. “You know, I’m a big advocate on pushing that he’s a great basketball player, and that the criticism he gets is unfair.”
Quincy Olivari ended his G League debut making an impressive 28 points in 37 minutes! While he did miss several of his shots, the high number of attempts ensured that the team was stable on the offensive front. Meanwhile, Bronny James’ performance wouldn’t be considered a memorable one. Though he got 6 minutes less playtime than Quincy Olivari, he only managed to make 6 points.
Despite this, the G League is the stage for Bronny James to improve. So, there’s a good chance that we can see some improvement soon. Opinions may differ on whether LeBron James’ son’s performance indicated a sign of improvement or not. However, there is no denying that Quincy certainly came out on top. Along with securing the highest individual score, his level of productivity and skill has sent social media buzzing. For now, the rookie seems to have placed the doubts made against him to rest.

If there is one thing that Quincy has shown everyone since coming to the NBA, it is his love for Steph Curry. Being a Laker, however, the Splash Bro should be his ‘sworn enemy.’ However, the 3-point leader is someone who the rookie has admired for years. After getting the chance to have a conversation with him, Olivari revealed, “It’s crazy. I liked him since I was in 6th grade. I don’t even know what to say, man, ’cause that’s my fav player ever.” Unfortunately, this ‘love’ didn’t make him any popular in the locker room.

During the South Bay Lakers’ media day, the 23-year-old outed his teammates, stating, “I mean they kind of make jokes. As you see, I have my Under Armours on my feet. They kinda joke that I think I’m Stephen Curry.”

Being a Laker, and in LeBron James’ good books, Olivari could certainly get some LeBrons, if he tried. Then again, it’s hard to forget your first ‘love,’ well that’s applicable to your first ‘sports love’ too, isn’t it?
And if one can find the opportunity to boast about owning the Curry Brand shoes, then they should make good use of it. By establishing himself as the lead scorer, and delivering in the South Bay Lakers’ first game, any doubts about Quincy Olivari, within his teammates, may vanish. Nike or Under Armour would know that this hoopster can deliver.
