Victor Wembanyama failed to put on a show in his Madison Square Garden debut. While the NBA world expected the 19-year-old rookie to have a legendary first game at the Garden, the New York Knicks gave Wemby no chance to score against them. Wembanyama had one of his worst performances of the season so far and finished with only 14 points and 9 rebounds. The San Antonio Spurs were blown out by the New York Knicks 126-105.

Washington Wizards legend Gilbert Arenas addressed Victor Wembanyama?s MSG failure on Gil’s Arena Podcast. He had some wise words for the 19-year-old rookie, ?There is gonna be a lot of those nights man. He is the new face, so people gonna take that challenge to heart.? Arenas said that every opponent will bring their A+ game when facing Victor Wembanyama, and the rookie will have to assert his dominance every single night. Arenas? co-panelists Rashad McCants and Kenyon Martin also claimed it was good for Victor that he had a bad game early in his career. Now, the rookie will understand the importance of having a great game at arenas like Madison Square Garden.

Victor Wembanyama was highly inefficient in his MSG debut. He went 4 of 14 from the field and missed all 4 of his three-point attempts. The New York Knicks fans in the arena chanted ?Overrated? after witnessing Wemby?s disappointing performance.

He is averaging 18.8 points for the San Antonio Spurs so far and is the highest scorer among the rookies. Wemby is also among the top 3 rookies in rebounds, blocks, steals, and overall efficiency. One bad game should not shake the confidence of the young rookie, and he will hope to bounce back in the next game.

Victor Wembanyama is in great hands with the San Antonio Spurs franchise and head coach Gregg Popovich will help him recover from his performance at MSG.
