Stephen Curry's Olympics nickname from Bam Adebayo—does it show the fun side of our NBA heroes?

When you hear King, you immediately think LeBron James. When you hear Chef, you immediately think of Stephen Curry. Well, that’s the power of nicknames in sports. Other than sounding cool, it also shows the kind of impact an athlete has left on a fan’s mind. And while Steph has no shortage of nicknames, his Team USA teammate Bam Adebayo recently bestowed him with another one. But it was a bit confusing!

Well, it started when the Warriors star congratulated Adebayo after he recently received a key to Miami County for representing the city and bringing an Olympic gold to South Beach. Along with him stood five other Olympians who received the same honor from Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “Last, but the tallest.” The mayor remarked as she called Bam to receive the key. Sharing the wholesome video on his Instagram story, Steph wrote, “Vet I see you.”

Acknowledging the gesture from his Olympics teammate, Bam reshared the story and responded, “MY ROOK” with a praying hand emoji. Surely, the new nickname is confusing to most fans because Steph is nine years older than Adebayo and has been in the league for much longer. However, it makes perfect sense considering that this was Bam’s second trip to the Olympics while the Baby-Faced Assassin participated in the event for the first time. So, he was technically a rookie to the Miami Heat star while in Paris. But there were moments when even the “vet” was left in awe of his “rook” Curry’s dominance.

The moment when Stephen Curry made Bam Adebayo go “What the F—!”

Like a true veteran leader, Bam Adebayo took care of business during the early stages of the Paris Olympics. And his best performance came in the second game against South Sudan where the Forward went off for 18 points on eight of ten shooting to lead his team to a blowout victory. Then, his role was diminished in the knockout stage and he did not have much impact. But that’s when his “rook” Stephen Curry took over.

Surely, everyone is aware of his historic performance in the final two games by now. Three after three after three, the Baby-Faced Assassin could not miss. And one of his shots against France even took Adebayo by surprise as he later revealed, “I was kind of like ‘What the f—!’” Yes, despite having played against Steph for seven years, he was stunned by his brilliance yet again. But he quickly realized, “Then I remembered who was shooting it.” What might be a terrible shot for the rest of the world is sometimes easier than a layup for Steph. And that’s what makes him so great. Moreover, it’s great to see the bond he has developed with his teammates during the trip which is evident from his online interaction with Adebayo.
