DeRozan and Lowry getting schooled—are they losing their edge or just having fun?

Former teammates Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan had a blast at their ‘family’ reunion, going head-to-head with their crew. Even though Lowry and DeRozan were dropping buckets, their friends showed up with some serious defense. Lowry posted clips of the games on his Instagram, captioning, “This what you call family fun!!! Enjoying the moment.. brother forever @demar_derozan !!”

In one of Lowry’s clips, DeRozan was blocked by one of his buddies, and Travis Wallace even dropped a layup over him. The fun didn’t stop there. NBA players jumped into the comments too. Bam Adebayo said, “@kyle_lowry7 @demar_derozan they locking y’all sh*t up!!!! @travisxwallace tough bucket on little bro too.” DeRozan clapped back with, “@bam1of1 😂 you still can’t guard me.”

Given the recent events, DeRozan’s comment might be a bit off, even if it was meant as a joke. Remember the play-in tournament when the Miami Heat faced the Chicago Bulls? With Butler out, Adebayo took on DeRozan and really showed up. He turned DeRozan into a non-factor in the Heat’s blowout win. DeRozan still dropped 22 points, but he got locked down during that crucial third quarter.

Bam wasn’t the only one getting in on the action—Tyler Herro also joined the fun, cracking jokes about the one-on-one game in the comments. With DeMar DeRozan kicking off his stint with the Sacramento Kings, the friendly vibes we’re seeing now could quickly turn into all-out, high-stakes showdowns on the court.

DeRozan’s future with the Kings is looking solid

The Sacramento Kings had a decent 2024 season with 46 wins and a well-rounded game, but they still fell short of the playoffs. Now, with DeRozan joining the squad on a sweet $24.6 million deal for the next three years, there’s a new buzz around the team. The Kings are about to level up big time, and DeRozan’s addition could be the game-changer they need to make a serious playoff push and take their game to the next level.

Derozan’s isolation scoring is off the charts, and when he’s driving to the hoop, he pulls so much defensive attention that you can’t ignore his game-changing impact. DeRozan’s presence isn’t just consistent; it’s a total game-changer that shakes things up every time he steps on the floor. Just check out this clip of him hitting a mid-range shot over two defenders trying to guard him.

He’s good from mid-range, and defenders better not give him any breathing room. DeRozan is pretty lengthy but comfortable, keeping his dribble alive in tight corners. He often splits gaps between defenders when they crowd him at the nail by taking two quick pound dribbles and rising up for a high-percentage jumper. Plus, his playmaking is off the charts—his drives tear through defenses and set up his teammates for easy buckets.

“DeMar has to be top five perhaps all-time the way not only he gets his shot but everyone knows the fakes are coming and can’t stop fouling him. What a delight it’s been to watch him and especially now that he’s back lately after a bit of a drought to making the big closing plays,” a Bulls insider said.

With DeRozan and De’Aaron Fox now on the Kings, their offense is about to hit a whole new level. Can these two slice open defenses? That’s gonna open up a ton of clean looks for their shooters. This dynamic duo could seriously shake things up and make the Kings’ offense way more dangerous.
