“When you’ve got two guys who are very selfless and want to win as bad as both of us want to, the rest of it goes away and just takes care of itself” said Anthony Davis, when describing the bond he shares with LeBron James. Having been teammates since 2019, the duo have developed a professional relationship on the court that can almost be compared to the likes of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.

Off the court, LeBron and Davis continue to built onto that relationship. From post-game dinners to Davis giving Bronny James the ‘rookie treatment’, the two Lakers stars seem to have as good a bond as can exist between teammates. Despite this, Davis seemed to have forgotten that one event which all LeBron fans may have marked on their mental calendars.

In the aftermath of the Los Angeles LakersSacramento Kings matchup, Anthony Davis was interviewed by several media members. After all, the center was the man-of-the-game, making over 36 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists to lead the Lakers to a 132-122 win. LeBron James was ‘OUT’ from the game due to an injury.

Bringing the All-Time Scorer up, one reporter asked whether Anthony Davis has prepared a birthday present for him. This caused him to exclaim “Damn, he be turning 40 huh? It is a big milestone. I’ll get a bottle of Vino or something. Oh, I got a nice one” The reporters around him let out a laugh, since it had slipped the player’s mind that LeBron James’s 40 birthday was a few hours away. This further caused him to add “Yeah I got something. Thank you for reminding me. I’m a bad friend.”

It is not every day that one gets to turn 40. For someone like Joey Tribbiani, only one phrase may come out during such an occasion: “WHY, GOD? WHYY?” However, LeBron James has lived a fulfilling life, having made a name for himself in the world of basketball unlike so many who came before him. Or even after. Therefore, if there is anyone who deserves to celebrate the occasion, it is him. Unfortunately, the most he could have hoped is that his on-court teammate at least remembered the day. However, you never know. Anthony Davis may have just been sarcastic. After all, who can forget the big 4-0?

For all we know, Anthony Davis may just be purposely trying to avoid LeBron James’ big occasion? After all, the 39-year-old certainly had his fair share of fun during Davis’ special day.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Anthony Davis really forget LeBron's 40th, or is he just playing the ultimate prank?

Have an interesting take?

The thing that Joey Tribbiani hates more than a 40 birthday? Probably the 30 one. For Anthony Davis, the memorable occasion had gotten interrupted by the fact that the Lakers were scheduled to have a matchup against the Toronto Raptors during the hours leading up to his 30th birthday. Therefore, he and his family decided to celebrate the occasion a day earlier. A video captured during the event showed the guests singing a slow rendition of the iconic ‘Happy Birthday’ song. Once they concluded the song, LeBron James exclaimed from outside the frame, “Old damn n***a”. Everyone from Davis to the guests broke into laughter. A pretty ironic statement, especially since LeBron himself was 38 at that time.

LeBron James did have his fun. However, he also went a step ahead to highlight the love he holds for his teammate. As highlighted by Treal Magazine, LeBron ended up gifting Davis a $1.4 million Rolls Royce Wraith! Pretty generous, considering all Anthony Davis is planning to gift back is a bottle of wine. Being LeBron’s 40 birthday, we can presume that Davis will get back to him with his own ‘Old Damn N***a’.
