Is Ayesha Curry's success a testament to the enduring 'Oprah Effect' in business?

Being on Oprah Winfrey’s “Favorite Things” list is a prestigious recognition for products, often driving a surge in popularity and sales. And for Ayesha Curry, this is the second time that she’s got the nod from the talk-show-host-turned-business-mogul. More on that in a moment, but what exactly caught Winfrey’s eye this time?

Released during the holiday time, the 19x Daytime Emmy Award winner selects a range of products across categories like wellness, fashion, and tech, highlighting quality, innovation, and utility. And in this year’s catalog, Ayesha’s Sweet July Edgewater Coffee Mug Set made it.

Taking to her 7.9 million Instagram followers to showcase her gratitude and shock at such an honor, the millionaire entrepreneur rightly dubbed it a “pinch me moment.”

For those not quite familiar with the benefits of this, here is an example. According to a 2022 Investopedia article, award-winning interior designer Nate Berkus saw tremendous growth after appearing on Oprah in 2002. Although he started Nate Berkus Associated in 1995, at just 24, it did not really take off as well as he envisioned. But the ‘Oprah Effect’ was in full display as Berkus soon became a regular at Winfrey’s show, going as far as getting a daytime show co-produced by Oprah’s production company, Harpo.

Ayesha Curry reached her dream milestone last year

Last year, in her appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the mother of four shared her excitement about being included in Oprah Winfrey’s “Favorite Things” for 2023. She expressed how surreal it felt to achieve such a significant goal after three years of hard work. As a business owner, that is like the ultimate goal, to make it on to Oprah’s Favorite Things list, like what? So, to work so hard on something for 3+ years and wonder if anybody cares, like I lost my mind,” she noted.

Ayesha’s brand, Sweet July, had its Skin Day + Night Face Towel Set featured, and suffice it to say, it was a game changer. I absolutely lost my mind, and it has been a complete game changer for us, even in terms of team morale…We love Oprah,” Mrs. Curry further added.

Back then, too, she had taken to Instagram to share her excitement, once again describing it as a pinch me moment. Clearly, no matter how many times one makes it to Winfrey’s list, it still feels surreal! Or at least, that’s what we can gauge from Ayesha’s reaction.

Ayesha Curry’s journey underscores the magic that can happen when passion meets recognition. It’s a reminder that hard work can lead to incredible opportunities, and even the most accomplished among us still experience those awe-inspiring moments. As she continues to build her brand, the excitement of this milestone will undoubtedly fuel her ambitions further. Here’s to more “pinch me” moments ahead!
