Ayesha Curry is a jack of all trades. Homemaker, and philanthropist, runs her restaurant chain, has authored two separate cookbooks, and manages her own lifestyle brand ‘Sweet July’. Before she started getting into all her other notable work, however, there was one other thing that Ayesha was: an actress. Making her debut in Suga Prince’s ‘Too Young for Love’ music video at age 12, Ayesha had initially moved to LA to take her career even further.

However, that was the same time she began her relationship with the future 4x NBA Champion, and her acting dream took a backseat on her priorities list. Years later, after completing one movie with Lindsay Lohan, Ayesha reveals wanting to get back into the groove of things.

Ayesha Curry recently gave out an interview for ‘Haute Living’. During the conversation, she touched base on the early part of her acting career, which coincided with the beginning of her relationship with Steph. She recalled how he used to bring Ayesha to his college and introduce her by saying, “This is my girlfriend; she’s an actress.” Now, Ayesha revealed that she wants Steph “to keep feeling that way”. Having already laid the foundation for her return with ‘Irish Wish’, the 35-year-old wants to explore a genre that goes along the same line as her previous movie. To understand ‘what next’, she revealed that she took inspiration from the 1999 film ‘Girl, Interrupted’.

“A big part of me loving that film is that I am obsessed with Angelina Jolie. I can’t say it enough,” said Ayesha. “But I also love really moving films that make you cry and scare you a little bit. It’s such a departure from my day to day, and maybe that’s why I like it so much. It’s funny, but for my whole life, I would always get taken for that rom-com type of role. But I love the gritty content. I love having the ability to transform into something else, into another character. I’d love to do something drama heavy. I would do theater, too. My dream has always been to play Mimi in Rent.”

Taking a unique approach on mental health, ‘Girl, Interrupted’ received mixed reviews during its launch. However, it became the movie that delivered one of Angelina Jolie’s breakout roles. It also went on to accumulate $48.3 million in the box office. For Ayesha Curry, the movie may have helped to provide an example of what experimenting with different genres could generate. In a world where old Rom-Coms are revered, while the most recent ones have shown a somewhat repetitive pattern, perhaps mixing that genre with “gritty”, as Ayesha stated, could create something memorable. Such ideas are now popping up as Ayesha reveals taking steps to get back into acting.

“I’m actively figuring [the acting thing out]. I started acting when I was three, locally and in commercials” Ayesha added. “Other kids were doing school activities, but I was on set. And then, when I moved to the States, I stopped. I started back up at 17 and moved to L.A., but then my husband and I started dating… and life comes at you fast. But now that I’m back into it, I’d love to keep going, and we’re figuring out ways to make that happen from a production standpoint.”

Ayesha Curry getting back into acting is something that her fans would welcome. After all, it has been quite a while since she last appeared on the movie screen or an OTT platform.

By the beginning of 2014, the actress was also trying her hand at voice acting. This allowed her to star in ‘The Little Ghost’. She would return to do the same 4 years later in an animated movie called ‘Charming’. However, ‘Charming’ was the last movie in which she was a different character.
