Apart from their $25 million commitment, the couple’s latest initiative served over 1 million souls. And Mrs. Curry knows whom to thank for the massive project.
Despite leaving Oakland three years ago after the Warriors shifted to San Francisco, the couple never let their love for The Town aside. Speaking of it, Ayesha said, “We became adults there in Oakland. We started our family there, and it’s our adoptive home.” During this festive season, the couple engaged themselves in an altruistic endeavor. The couple conducted their 12th annual ‘Christmas with Currys’ initiative, this time under the theme ‘Giving Joy’.
The initiative operated on multiple fronts. Firstly, to promote the love for reading, the Foundation conducted book fairs, book distributions and also donated over 100,000 books to 18,000 elementary school students. Most importantly, the Eat. Learn, Play. contributed $500k to Alameda County Community Food Bank, which fed over one million meals to families in need.

After orchestrating such a soulful activity, Ayesha Curry refused to take credit for it. Instead, she put the spotlight on the person who deserved it. In an interview with Inc.com, she said, ” Our CEO, Chris Helfridge is just incredible. He’s an incredible mind, has the most pure heart for philanthropy. It runs deep within the roots of his family. In 2022, a year after the couple Oakland, they announced a new initiative under their Foundation to combat the illiteracy gap among the kids in Oakland. It was a partnership effort in collaboration with the software company, Workday.
Speaking of the initiative, the couple said, “This year is the biggest investment we’ve made to date to support one of the pillars of our work, and we are so grateful for Workday’s partnership to help us bring this effort to life. Oakland kids, families, and teachers deserve the opportunity and resources to become proficient readers.”
It’s reported that the initiative has improved the literacy rate significantly, bringing one-on-one tutoring for over 10,000 elementary school students and building over 150 libraries. The city has witnessed a significant change in just three years. It’s astounding to imagine the impact the Warriors superstar and his wife has made for the people of Oakland. Truly a blessing.

Not to forget that the kids not only enjoy the meals but also some goodies from the Warriors. The ‘Giving Joy’ initiative offered 200 kids a trip to a holiday-themed petting zoo.
