As James Harden joined the Los Angeles Clippers in November 2023, it marked the peak of the narratives around his beef with the Philadelphia 76ers. With that, it also marked a new juncture, with added pressure to not only defy fans, but an entire franchise. Regardless, as Harden ventured into the arena in style, he faced the first LA mics with utmost confidence. While talking about his game, he said, “I’m not a system player, I am a system.”

As the Clippers struggled to spark cohesion in their 4-star rotation, his comments soon became a subject of mockery. However, now, the Clippers have found their stride since then, and are one of the top teams in the conference. With that, Harden’s comment has a former Clippers star proving the reality of Harden’s comments.

On a recent podcast, John Wall, known for his quick end-to-end breaks, commended Clippers head coach Ty Lue for finding balance amidst the star-studded lineup. With that, he noticed the Clippers’ surge during James Harden’s presence. Citing Harden’s over-confident statement as true, Wall said, “It’s funny because, when James (Harden) said, ‘I’m the system, I’m not a system’, he wasn’t lying”

After beginning the season on a promising note, Harden’s induction sparked a series of losses for the franchise. While media and fans steadily blamed Harden for the downfall, the Clippers understood the battles of change, emphasizing court-time amongst the stars for future success.

With that, and several rotational changes in the roster, the Clippers hit a perfect combination in less than a month. Now, they stand fourth in the Western Conference, and are slated to clinch a playoff spot with ease.

James Harden’s stats with the Clippers

James Harden has already played more games for Clippers than he player for the 76ers last year. Even though his numbers are slightly down, he is currently in the most satisfying season within the recent years.

Harden’ scoring has seen consistent dip each season since his 2018-19 year with the Houston Rockets. This year, he is averaging 17.4 points, alongside 5.1 rebounds and 8.1 assists – his lowest scoring since taking on the leadership role for Rocket in 2012.

However, Clippers only want Harden to do so much. As a result, he is averaging lowest minutes since his Oklahoma City Thunder days. Moreover, as he gets to pick his shots with LA, he is shooting a career best of 40.3% from the three point line.

Despite the presence of Kawhi Leonard, Russell Westbrook and Paul George, Harden burdens the majority of on-ball load for the Clippers. With that, he is also averaging a career low on turnovers, just 1.3 per game.
