Team USA are finally World Champions for the 5th consecutive time. While this tournament was the last one for Steph, Bron, and KD (unconfirmed), the trio took care of business in the Showdown. Curry sinking 8 threes, was by far the highlight of the show. However, there was another hero, apart from Kevin Durant, from the Phoenix Suns, who Steve Kerr declared as the “unsung MVP!”

Devin Booker finished the game with 15 points and 6 rebounds. But then again, the Suns’ star’s efficient role remained out of all those viral Instagram reels and X threads that rejoiced and praised Team USA, aka Dream Team 2.0’s efforts, to reach ultimate glory. Steve Kerr came forward and said, “Devin Booker is an incredible basketball player. Nobody asked about him. He was our unsung MVP. I just wanted to say that,” via Ben Golliver. There is no denying that Booker had one of the best games in the tournament. In fact, he has managed to get more key game time than the NBA Champion, Jayson Tatum!

JT finally got back on the floor in the Showdown against France after the Champ didn’t play a minute in the Semis! Now, there has been a lot of hate against Steve Kerr for not giving JT game time. Well, Kerr confirmed that it was because of the tactical combinations and which players gel smoothly. However, back in the penultimate game, it was the second time that the Celt sat the game out.

This led to fans believing that Kerr has ‘an agenda’ against Celtics players, however, the head coach is a big fan of Derrick White and Jrue Holiday. Nevertheless, following the final, Kerr pointed out the players who had a fantastic game and did his due diligence as Team USA’s head coach.

Regardless, Devin Booker’s performance was quite impactful. He poured 7 early points to put Team USA in the lead. Booker was also among the top players in terms of scoring until halftime. He averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists while shooting over 56% from deep in this tournament. To a certain point, yes, he isn’t as appreciated as his teammates are. He was also a crucial part of the 2021 Team USA that won gold in Tokyo.

While Kerr recognized Book’s talents quite effectively, could he have done the same with Tatum? How? Well, when it comes to JT’s role, he shares similar talent with LeBron and KD. Although the two veterans are worthy of starting in every single game, Kerr had the opportunity to open doors for the Celt against Serbia. The Serbians play high-IQ and a physical game. Then again, Tatum is no less of an elite scorer. So, there definitely will be some questions raised as Team USA heads back home.

Steve Kerr has a lot to look forward to as a Warrior

Well, before battling hundreds of questions surrounding Jayson Tatum, the head coach has to evaluate the new Golden State lineup. Yes, the fun and amazing Olympic tour has come to an end. Players will be going back home as they’ll look to attend the training camps that their franchises will want to organize and get the ball rolling, in the coming weeks. Quite frankly, for GSW, the offseason wasn’t a complete success. After losing Klay, the front office tried bringing in assets but couldn’t add a superstar for Steph and Green.

This may just be a headache for Steve Kerr to plan out new rotations. It will be tough to get things done the way they used to, not only for Kerr but also for Steph and Green. Just like the Jayson Tatum and Team USA scenario, the head coach will have to switch up his tactical game for the upcoming season. With an aging, broken core group, he will need to factor in Brandin Podziemski and Jonathan Kuminga more often.

That being said, the Bay Area was resistant to give up their youngsters when Danny Ainge demanded a hefty exchange deal for Lauri Markkanen. Then again, it remains to be seen what the mastermind Kerr prepares to do with his Dubs squad in the next season. Will the dynasty continue?
