LeBron James is usually the first name that comes to our minds when thinking about the NBA. The legend is an entertainer, to say the least. You can hardly point out a season where James hasn’t delivered his finest game. However, being the oldest guy in the league, one may expect his team to take some load off his shoulders. But given the current scenes at the Lakers, it is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Ex-Denver Nuggets star DeMarcus Cousins reflected on LeBron James’ situation with LA. On FanDuel TV’s Run It Back, ‘Boogie’ said: “When you have talents like LeBron James and Anthony Davis, it’s hard to speak against that. But just the build and makeup of this team don’t really read long-term success.” The Lakers are struggling. There aren’t many hoopers who are successfully bringing the ball up the court for the team. Their loopholes aren’t a secret, and because of this, senior players are still carrying the team day in and day out.

Moreover, with D’Angelo Russell‘s dropping performance and visible heat with JJ Redick, it’s easy to understand that the team desperately needs a point guard. Cousins opined: “I do think they’re still struggling at the PG spot. No knock to D’Angelo Russell, but that’s a struggling hole for them.” He further added:
“It still comes to a point where the oldest guy in the NBA is still having to carry the load. Outside of Anthony Davis, LeBron James is having to carry the load every single night. One, that’s just unfair to the guy at that age, and two, it shows the talent behind those two, it’s kind of a drop-off, which is a part of the issue with the Lakers.”
Simply put, DeMarcus Cousins thinks the LA Lakers are too dependent on LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Therefore, the team needs another piece to have a chance at competing in the league, despite their competitive side. Moreover, having JUST two of the top talents in the NBA might not be enough if they want an eighteenth banner.

LeBron James will be around the NBA “a lot longer” before hanging his boots
The 20x NBA All-Star has been a household name for the last two decades. Has this scene changed so far? At 39, James Sr. is performing as if he’s transported back to 2003, his debut year. Although there are dips in his consistency at times, there is no doubt that Bron continues to instill terror in his ops’ strategies. Following the Lakers’ 123-108 victory over the Raptors, LeBron James drew a comparison between an old car and himself.

He said he’s put a lot of “miles” on his body but is still cruising just fine. This means we’ll get to see on the floor a bit longer. Well, the LA Lakers should be happy to know that they will have the star for a while before he hangs his boots. But when? That’ one mysterious question.
LeBron James defies age, but the Lakers’ reliance on him and Anthony Davis is concerning. Cousins points out D’Angelo Russell’s struggles at point guard, exposing a key gap. Without a reliable playmaker, their stars are overburdened, and long-term success feels uncertain. For a real shot at another championship, the Lakers need to ease LeBron’s load with stronger support.
