Capital One’s ‘The Match’ returned for its 8th edition as Team Warriors took on Team Kansas City. Held at the Wynn Country Club in Las Vegas, the game served as a platform for bragging rights while bringing in money for a good cause. $35 million were raised as the NBA took on the NFL and the best-friend duos of the respective leagues vyed against each other. Airing on TNT, the commentators were members of Inside the NBA, Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson.
While the fans were ecstatic with the news, one competitor wouldn’t share the same sentiment. With both Thompson and Barkley present during the game, many expected fireworks. But the saga remained unsolved as Barkley earned the favors of a longtime rival.

This year’s edition of the match caused a massive upset as the best-friend duo of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce beat the Splash Brothers. The match-up was interesting as the two sports fanbases were pitted against each other. While the Kansas City duo complemented each other quite well, the same cannot be said for Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

Although Curry made some impressive shots, including an outrageous chip, Thompson’s performance was mediocre at best. To give you a clearer picture, Team Warriors’ first points came at Hole 9.
Klay’s underwhelming performance was not lost on people as teammate Draymond Green too made fun of the GSW guard. Celebrating Klay’s putt with a thunderous roar, Green managed to sneak in a little bit of shade in typical fashion.
While watching the match from his golf cart Draymond stated,”This is crazy! We woulda had a better chance at this if Steph teammate was Charles Barkley.”
The comment from Chuck’s long-standing rival, although serving as a joke, was actually a dig at his teammate’s performance. Thompson must have been frustrated to hear that from inside his own circle.
After all, the Warriors’ no. 11 wouldn’t be surprised if the criticism came from Charles Barkley.

Draymond’s comments were a reminder that Klay Thompson and Charles Barkley never addressed their unsolved saga.
Stemming from a game between the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat at the beginning of the season, Charles Barkley called out Klay Thompson. Boldly, Chuck claimed that Klay was “not the same guy” after his injuries. Since 2019, the now 33-year-old has faced a series of injuries with his Achilles, missing entire seasons of play as a result.
Barkley’s comments struck a nerve with Klay Thompson as he went off on Chuck during the post-game interview. Speaking to the media he stated, “It hurts when someone like Charles Barkley, with the platform he has, says you?re not the same player as before the injuries you had.”?
