The couple welcomed their first child, Riley, back in 2012, within just a year of getting married. They started their planning to have a second child two years after that. Despite their willingness, the path became complicated and at one point, looked impossible.
“We tried, and it didn’t happen,” Ayesha said in her Because Life?podcast episode in 2021. She opened up about how after several attempts they felt like giving up. “We had a crying session,”?she said reflecting on that period.
She later added how she put the burden on herself stating, ?As a woman, you often blame yourself.?
The Golden State Warriors star shared that moment of disappointment with her. He stayed by her side in her time of need and even shed tears. They shared the painful moments together, but what followed defined the course of their relationship.
Unexpected inspiration and a change in fortune

The couple visited an art gallery once, where they came across a butterfly painting. The art director told them that the painting was a representation of staying in the moment and controlling the controllable. The NBA couple fell in love with the picture as it impacted their mindset too.
They resumed their attempts to have another child and finally in October 2014, Ayesha became pregnant with her second child, Ryan. They welcomed their baby boy in July 2015. That year turned everything around for Stephen, professionally too, as he won his first-ever MVP followed by his first championship title.
