Stephen Curry has been a transformative figure, not just for the Golden State Warriors but for the entire NBA. His sustained excellence has garnered him millions of adoring fans. But, on 15th October Curry suffered from the downsides of fame. An international student was accused of walking through Curry’s house in Atherton. At the time, both Stephen and Ayesha were not at their home. However, a nanny and their three kids were present at the time of trespassing.

The student faced charges of aggravated trespassing and was scheduled to appear for an arraignment on Dec. 7 but failed to do so.

Sheng Gao is an 18-year-old student from China, who currently resides in Cupertino, a city 17 miles southeast of Atherton. SFGATE reported that the police apprehended Gao and, during an inquiry, he said he entered Curry’s residence “to try to get a signature to Steph Curry.” The officer sent to the residence reprimanded Gao for his actions and reported his charges as trespassing, but the DA’s office elevated it to aggravated trespassing.

San Mateo County’s District Attorney, Stephen Wagstaffe, said, “Aggravated trespassing is when you enter into the residence of somebody who is there. It’s not a burglary, because to be a burglary we have to show the intent was to steal something.” With Sheng Gao failing to appear, the court has issued an arrest warrant for the perpetrator, with the bail amount being set at $500.

While this is an extremely scary incident for the Curry, this is not their first time. It seems like as Steph got more successful in his NBA career incidents like this seemed to rise.

Other instances of stalking NBA stars

The Warriors ended their 2014-15 season run on a high note. After a 40-year drought, the team finally won their NBA championship defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers. This victory meant that Curry and his family were thrust into the wider public’s eye, drawing more admirers. While Steph is never one to turn down an autograph request, tailing his car to do so is not the best way forward. He tweeted about this saying, “…tailing me the whole way is not the best way to get an autograph.”

Besides Curry, Chicago Bulls star, Zach LaVine also became a victim of stalking issues. In March 2021, LaVine had to call the police after an “allegedly obsessed” woman showed up at his Chicago home and refused to leave. Although she was not formally arrested or charged with a crime, the police escorted her to a local hospital for mental evaluation. In a much more serious case of burglary, earlier this year, Michael Jordan’s home in Highland Park, Illinois was reportedly broken into. The 18-year-old trespasser was later arrested on the scene.
