Is Anthony Edwards' new Adidas drop making us forget the legend of Michael Jordan?

The rising star, Anthony Edwards signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Adidas last month. As per reports, this particular contract with Adidas will fetch the 23-year-old eight figures annually. There have been players who have signed deals with this brand but not a lot had such hype. James Harden signed a massive $200 million contract with Adidas. Other players include Damian Lillard, Derrick Rose, Trae Young, and Donovan Mitchell. Adidas recently released Edwards’ first signature shoes.

The AE 1 lows are set to release on August 15th and the commercial and promotions have started to fly around the internet. Adidas recently posted a reel on Instagram on the shoe’s first commercial. This short commercial received a lot of attention ahead of the release date of the shoe. For the most part, the commercial did throw off Michael Jordan vibes with Edwards. Fans loved this crossover for the first time with Edwards finally releasing his first of many signature shoes.

Now, many have considered Edwards the next face of the league. And why not? The 23-year-old led the Wolves past the Suns with a sweep. But he led the franchise to its second-ever Conference Finals appearance. Out of all the youngsters, Edwards has stood out as the future champion, MVP, and whatnot. His immediate success has had a lot of impact on younger players. Not only that but quite a few of the fans compare him to the great Michael Jordan.

The speculation has come to a point where some even believe that ANT might be Jordan’s son. While that is a different story, Anthony’s early success does mirror how MJ rose to popularity back in the day. Fans on Instagram gave similar reactions when checking out the first commercial of AE 1.

In this commercial, a young kid tries to go up against Anthony Edwards one-on-one. However, the kid gets his shot blocked and goes on to say a special line that everyone likes, “Believe that”. But more importantly, fans reminisced about Michael Jordan’s Nike commercial. “MJ type commercial”, “Screw tryna be like mike, I’m tryna be like ant”, “got ads like MJ & Kobe”, “Greatest campaign of all time, you arguing with the air, Believe That!”, and more were the reactions. It feels as if fans consider ANT’s ad campaign to be better than MJ’s.

Looking at the past, players like Ja Morant and Zion Williamson also had similar opportunities. However, injuries got the best out of these stars. ANT is a great example of how great first picks of the draft could be if not interfered with injuries. In the ongoing Team USA exhibition games, ANT has continued to perform at the highest level as he looks to seek redemption this year. It will be interesting to see Edwards continue to dominate and bring in more volumes of his signature shoe.

What are your thoughts on the AE 1 commercial? Do you think it’s better than the Air Jordan commercials? Let us know in the comments.
