The Washington Wizards are rooted in the second-lowest place in the Eastern Conference standings. They dropped to 17 defeats this season after the Philadelphia 76ers stunned them with a 131-126 upset. Joel Embiid‘s exceptional 50-point performance against the struggling Wizards did not help their case either. The reigning MVP, despite feeling under the weather, managed to humble the Wizards with his barrage of baskets to post 50 points. However, the blows did not stop there. He also grabbed 13 rebounds and dished out seven assists.

The gut-wrenching loss coupled with Embiid’s 50-point explosion garnered a stinging remark from the former NBA champion.

The Wizards are playing their worst basketball this season, having only managed three wins in 20 games so far. After missing the play-ins last season, Washington was hoping for a turnaround this season. Much to their dismay, they dug a hole too deep to come out of. They nearly gutted their entire roster, trading away Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. At this point, it is fair to call them a rebuilding team. However, their plans to rebuild have failed miserably. While a rebuilding team is expected to be free-falling, the Wizards’ records are abysmal for a team that has Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma. The franchise’s losing record in the past couple of seasons prompted Kendrick Perkins to make a ruthless prediction. As per the former Boston Celtics legend, the Wizards are on the “verge of being the worse team in NBA History”.

This offseason, they brought in Jordan Poole, whose performance, simply put, has been quite underwhelming so far. The duo of Poole and Kuzma is not yielding the expected results. They have the second-worst defense in the league. The primary reason for such a poor defense is their lack of size, length, and strength. They don’t have a single seven-footer on their roster, which leaves them undersized in every single position. Therefore, the Wizards need to pull some serious moves before the trade deadline if they want to save their season.

Are the Wizards the worst team in the league?

The Wizards are not the worst team in the NBA. Yet. The Detroit Pistons are further down at the bottom of the Eastern Conference ranking, occupying the last sport with just 2 wins in 21 games. The Wizards secured the biggest win of the season by pulling a 126-107 win against the bottom-dwellers. The main source of the Pistons’ agony this season is their young core. The fairly young team of players can neither shoot well nor defend well.

The Pistons are currently trying to climb out of an 18-game losing streak, the worst record in franchise history. They haven’t registered a victory since October 28, when they secured their second win against the Chicago Bulls, a 118-102 victory.
