“Very impressive to watch a 26-year-old @malika_andrews interview the world-champion Milwaukee Bucks on national television, and handle it as smoothly and professionally as she has.” The praise by ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter highlighted the impact that Malika Andrews created amongst her peers, right from the start.
When transitioning from a civil rights law firm to studying for a communications degree, she never would have expected to become one of the most recognized NBA sportscasters by 2021. However, from interviewing Giannis after having reportedly gotten on his bad side earlier, to being nominated for an Emmy, there was no denying that Malika was setting the foundation for a successful year.
The same year that the spotlight was shining brightly on Malika was also the one when ESPN hired another Andrews – Kendra. This instantly led some people to question: Are the two related? Well, if you still don’t know the answer to that question, then read on to find out.

According to Glamour Magazine, when they were young, Kendra and Malika Andrews tried to make their responsibility for clearing the table after dinner a bit more entertaining. Therefore, they would set a shot clock. They would have 24 seconds to race around the table, trying to collect every plate and stray napkin before the buzzer. A made-up game that probably every NBA fan could find entertaining.
During an interview with People Magazine, Malika discussed her loved ones by stating “We were — and are — a tight-knit family,” Both Mike and Caren reportedly still live in the house where Malika and Kendra grew up, and the family makes it a point to have dinner together at least each night.
Before she joined ESPN, Kendra Andrews worked as a Warriors reporter for NBC Sports Bay Area. Along with that, she also co-hosted the Dubs Talk podcast. At one point in time, Malika was even covering the Denver Nuggets for The Athletic.
Recalling the time when Kendra came to ESPN to be interviewed, Malika revealed, “I didn’t lose any sleep over it. I’m kind of kidding! I tried to stay out of the process beyond where I was invited into it, and that was from Kendra’s side.”
She later added, “I root for what she (Kendra) wants. I root for her to succeed. Kendra getting the opportunity to work for the pinnacle network in sports television is a big deal. And so, because she wanted it, I wanted it for her.”

In her ESPN debut, Kendra discussed the Warriors’ mentality coming off their 1-3 road trip. She also discussed how Klay Thompson is getting reintegrated on the court. She continues to write and report for ESPN.com. Kendra’s other duties involve contributing reports to ESPN’s television platforms, including SportsCenter and NBA Today. The latter show is hosted by Malika Andrews herself. As a result, the sisters often get the chance to communicate live on air. This allows them to create some adorable moments, while also maintaining professional integrity.
One of the most viral moments between the sisters took place back in May 2022. Kendra was on the Chase Center court, highlighting that Draymond Green needs to “play with a certain level of mindfulness throughout the rest of the playoffs”. Since her right hand was holding the mic, the watch she was wearing was quite noticeable.
As soon as Kendra was done speaking, Malika added a few words before stating, “But is that my watch?” The look on Kendra’s face confirmed it. Malika added, “Yep, that’s my watch”.
I will not stand for the slander Malika tried to throw at me on NBA Today. It’s my watch!! It was a gift from HER! https://t.co/WDnHG4E1Lo

Along with Malika’s other hosts, some fans would have also been laughing when they caught the moment live on-air.
Which university did Kendra Andrews attend?
Before Malika went off to college, she worked at her grandfather’s civil rights firm for at least a year. Reportedly disliking the 9-5 cubicle life, she was inspired to study journalism. Unlike her elder sister, however, Kendra had found her niche early on.
Similarly to Malika, Kendra attended the Head-Royce School in Oakland, when she was younger. During her senior year, she got the chance to shadow Associated Press Bay Area sports writer Janie McCauley. This allowed her to get an idea of what it was like to be a sports journalist, McCauley said.

Later on, she enrolled for a four-year course at Gonzaga University. She pursued a bachelor’s degree in journalism, with a minor in solidarity and social justice. During her college tenure, Kendra interned for The Washington Post and the Salt Lake Tribune. It was The Athletic, however, where she got her start. The rest, as they say, is history.
