Who doesn’t love Holidays? Jrue Holiday is one of the best point guards in the NBA and won his title with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021. He shifted greens to the Boston Celtics, who will play the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA finals. Yet, there are some questions rambling about his personal life. One query is whether he is related to Justin and Aaron Holiday!

Unlike actor Michael J Jordan and Chicago’s own MJ, the Holidays are related. The three brothers are basketball players who come from athletic families. Thus, let’s explore the relationship of the NBA players.

Early beginnings and family influence of Jrue Holiday and his brothers

From the onset, the Holiday brothers stepped onto the basketball courts and never looked back. In fact, their parents have an athletic background, and parents Shawn and Toya played basketball during their yesteryears. Moreover, Toya was the Pac-10 Player of the Year in 1982 showcasing her stunning basketball capabilities. With the perfect genes in place, the brothers started their basketball careers and grew up in Los Angeles, attending the Campbell Hall School.

Playing basketball became a family norm, and the brothers grew up to play well in their careers. The three brothers graduated from their school- Justin in 2007, Jrue in 2008, and Aaron in 2015. Yes, their high school careers paved the way to the NBA!

High School success and bonding

The oldest brother amongst the Holidays is Justin, and in comes Jrue after him. Aaron is the youngest among the brothers, with a seven-year age gap between him and Justin. The trio played basketball for the Campbell Hall School’s team Vikings, California Division IV state championship. Success came in especially when Aaron took the school to its first California Regional final since 2008.

Similarly, it happened when Jrue graduated from high school and Justin and Jrue even played together with the team. Meanwhile, Jrue won the 2008 Gatorade National Player of the Year while Aaron took home the Los Angeles Daily News Player of the Year in 2015, adding to their accolades. Hence, they are one of the best players in the country.

The competition between the brothers was at an all-time high, as Aaron believed he was the “weakest one” among the brothers. As they played together in high school, it was a different story in college.

College careers and divergent paths by Jrue Holiday and brothers

As the brothers shared fables in their high school career, Justin took a trip to the University of Washington to start his college career. In the meantime, Jrue and Aaron attended UCLA. Due to his stunning talents, after playing for his college in 2008, Jrue decided to step up to the bigger leagues. He entered the NBA draft, and with the 17th overall pick, the Philadelphia 76ers drafted him in the first round.

Although Jrue got drafted, Justin bounced around teams and remained undrafted. But at the end of the day, he won an NBA title with the Golden State Warriors in 2015. Aaron, in the meantime, played at UCLA from 2015 to 2018 and made the first-team all-Pac-12 in 2018. The Indiana Pacers selected him as the first-round pick, (23rd overall) in 2018.

One key component of Jrue’s game is his defense. The three brothers shared the same skillset with Justin becoming the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

NBA journeys and sibling milestones

As discussed, the 76ers drafted Jrue in 2009. He was later named the NBA All-Star in 2013, showcasing his talents on the defensive side of the court. The hard, no-nonsense defensive player finally won his NBA title in 2021 with the Bucks. In his career, Jrue won multiple accolades in the NBA. He was called to the NBA’s all-defensive first team of 2018 and 2021 and also made the second team in 2019 and 2022.

Switching attention to Aaron, the Indiana Pacers drafted him in 2018. During his time there, he played with his brother Justin from 2019 to 2021 similar to Jrue and Justin’s time in playing together in high school. In addition, Justin and Aaron played for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2022-2023 season.

The brothers made history in 2019 when Justin and Aaron (Atlanta Hawks) and Jrue playing for the New Orleans Pelicans simultaneously played together in the game. At that time, Jrue spoke to Sports Illustrated in 2019 stating, “It’s really special. I know that it’s a blessing, and we don’t take it for granted. I think to be able to be on the court at the same time, and for me not having too many more years left, I think that it’s good to see, and I always want to be out there and cherish those moments.”

Reflections on sibling rivalry and support

The siblings played together during their childhood years and enjoyed their time together. Despite Aaron considering him as the weakest, the brothers supported each other through tough times. Their sibling competition was put in words perfectly by Justin. According to Mavs.com, stating, “I grew up liking sports, competitive sports. We obviously enjoyed basketball. It was very, very healthy growing up having a lot of siblings that enjoyed sports and being athletic.”

Like all brothers, they have the desire to play together in one team and Aaron pointed out, “It’s very motivating. I mean, obviously all three of us playing together, that’d be something crazy. But we know everything has to happen the right way.”
