The NBA world has witnessed plenty of brother duos on the court. Starting from the popular Warriors‘ family, Stephen Curry has locked horns with his brother, Seth Curry multiple times on the court. Moreover, we have even witnessed a cousin-to-cousin matchup as well between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Most recently, in the Bay-Memphis game’s lineup, we came across two players with the same surnames, Cam and Pat Spencer, taking on each other on Saturday night!

Then came the obvious and most likely question. Yes, they are brothers. After missing out on the first two opportunities to play against each other, Cam and Pat locked horns for the first time at Chase Center. Pat Spencer, the elder brother, is undoubtedly the more popular one between the two of them. Well, at least in the Bay Area.

The 28-year-old came into the Warriors fold after signing a two-way contract for the 2023-24 season. After playing for the Capital City Go-Go and Santa Cruz Warriors, impressed with his performances, the Bay roped him in. Even though he made it to the Dubs’ locker room, he was just warming the bench for the longest time, until late February last year. Pat received his first playing minutes against the Nuggets and made his first points against the Grizzlies, during which he scored in a fastbreak dunk amidst a roaring crowd!

Since then, Pat Spencer has played 17 games for the Dubs in the last two seasons, mostly covering the garbage minutes. On the other hand, Cam Spencer, came into the league this season after a commendable performance in UConn’s championship run. The Pistons selected him with their 53rd pick and instantly traded him to the Grizzlies. While the youngster didn’t get much opportunity on the floor initially, the Memphis team has gradually brought him into the mix, owing to the injuries on the Grizz’s side.

Pat and Cam Spencer: Brothers in arms

While it took some time for the duo to face each other on the court, they already have a strong partnership off the court. The Spencers put together their basketball earnings and started the Spencer Brothers Foundation. Growing up near the Naval base in Annapolis, MD, the NBA brothers have made significant contributions to the military families that are affected by PTSD.

The brothers have joined forces with Texas-based Chillshark for the production of Cold-plunge water tanks that are effective in treating the symptoms of PTSD. Other than that, we also have the brothers, singing praises for each other too, via CBS Sports.

Have an interesting take?

Firstly, Cam Spencer, speaking of his relationship with his elder brother, said, “We grew up playing all kinds of sports, and we’re as tight as they come… We’re the biggest competitors when we’re going against each other, but when we’re watching, we have each other’s back and we’re each other’s biggest fans.”

Of course, being competitive brings out the best in the duo. Moreover, Pat Spencer, addressing his younger brother’s hooping skills, said, “We’re different. He’s more of a sniper… We pride ourselves on having high basketball IQ and making other guys around us better. I would say he’s more of a scorer. I’m more of a facilitator and playmaker. I’m a bit more athletic and probably a better on-ball defender. He’s got a really good feel for the game off the ball. We complement each other pretty well.”

Tonight, the elder brother had the last laugh, as the Warriors, without the help of Steph Curry, managed to defeat the second-seeded Grizzlies at home. They will once again lock horns on April 1st. Will Cam Spencer seek his revenge? Let us know in the comments.
