Thus far, the virus has taken 6,944,800 lives across the globe. The pandemic shut the world down, forcing 7 billion people indoors locked in their homes. And like the rest of the world, the NBA also bore the brunt of the deadly pandemic. Particularly, the reigning MVP Joel Embiid.

According to Boardroom’s Nick DePaula in 2018, the 7ft center signed a five-year deal with Iowa-based shoe company, Under Armour. At the time, the 76ers were starting to become contenders again and the Embiid’s star power was on the rise. The deal made him the highest-paid shoe Endorser in the center position and, after a slew of strategic social media posts his signature shoe was dropped in the fall of 2020. However, the pandemic struck as an unfortunate twist for Embiid.

His shoe didn’t sell even close to the projected number as people were locked indoors, forcing Under Armour to stop the production. However, since then Joel Embiid has won an MVP and even this regular season he seems to take things up a notch. His recent victory against the Lakers was an impressive showing of his dominance.
