Did Anthony Edwards make the right call switching from football to basketball after that major scare?

Could you imagine a world where Anthony Edwards was in the NFL instead of the NBA? As might sound wild, but as a kid, Ant-Man was more drawn to running on grass than playing basketball. And if it weren’t for a major injury scare when in the 10 grade, he might have chased his football dream instead of lacing his hoop shoes.

Appearing on Sonya Curry’s Raising Fame podcast, Ant-Man’s brother Antoine revealed that the Edwards family realized Anthony was a gifted athlete very early. “He started playing football at the age of 4. He played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, like every skill position. Like he was doing it with ease.” There are even online clips of a young Ant-Man playing for the Atlanta Vikings and dominating the competition.

However, as he reached the 10 grade, Edwards decided to hang his boots. Why? Well, it was after he injured his leg during a game and it became really stiff. “He thought his leg was messed up,” Antoine revealed. Unable to move or bend his leg even while he was using the bathroom, the injury scare was enough for Ant to quit pursuing the sport. “He came walking to my room and said ‘Not playing football anymore.’ I was like ok.” Although the incident put a hold on his NFL dream, he was talented enough to transition to basketball and achieve great heights in the NBA. Moreover, his sister Antoinette was always confident in his abilities despite him quitting football. “I knew he was gonna be something because he was just good in every sport that he played in.”

“I might be the first” – Will Anthony Edwards ever play in the NFL?

Although Edwards’ childhood injury scare set him on a new path, the NFL door might still be open for the Minnesota Timberwolves star. Ant-Man has remained open to  playing at the NFL. During a conversation with comedian Marco Summers last year, Edwards noted that no player in history has played both in the NBA and NFL. “I think I might be the first one!” Maybe the kid in him who wanted to be a football player is still alive.

Moreover, he even made an ambitious pitch to NFL legend Peyton Manning during their recent meeting at the Paris Olympics. You already knew it. Wide receiver. If you ever need me, call me.” However, Ant still hopes to accomplish an important goal in the NBA before he even thinks of switching sport. “First I gotta handle my business in the NBA… as a time, Minnesota organization, we want to win a championship. After that, we’ll figure that out,” he said. So, don’t be surprised if you ever hear the news of Anthony Edwards gearing up to play football in the NFL. What are your thoughts?
