Can Anthony Edwards truly 'cook' Ja Morant despite trailing in their head-to-head record?

Brash, cocky, in your face are the terms that have become synonymous with Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves guard saw his breakthrough season last year and has been rising ever since. But another force in the Western Conference can draw a comparison with him and is ready to take the league by storm. It’s none other than Ja Morant, who’ll be looking to mark his territory again after an injury-ravaged season. But there’s something that still keeps Ja Morant ahead of Anthony Edwards, at least according to Baron Davis.

During his appearance on The Draymond Green Show With Baron Davis, the host asked the 2x All-Star to name the top five players to keep an eye on this season. After placing LaMelo Ball, Tre Mann, Jalen Green, and Anthony Davis in the respective order, Baron concluded the list with Ja Morant. Then he added, “I think Anthony Edwards needs Ja Morant’s aggressiveness. That’s what I think is holding Anthony Edwards back.” Notably, even the Warriors’ floor general felt the opinion was “interesting.”

Draymond Green, agreeing with Baron Davis, does not come across as a surprise. The Warriors veteran has lauded the Wolves talisman’s passionate showing and ethic while he was with Team USA, earlier this year. “If you understand anything about greatness, you have to be very close to cocky in order to be great at anything,” Green said, while also clarifying this is what “separates” him.

Last season, Anthony Edwards found himself being compared with the legendary Michael Jordan because of his playing style. His exceptional playmaking helped the Wolves to reach the Conference Finals, but it wasn’t enough against the Mavericks. Whereas, Ja Morant could only suit up 9 times for the Grizzlies due to his suspension for the gun incident and his season-ending shoulder injury.

“So I go with Ja Morant at No.5 because Ja Morant is a dog. He’s a winner. You know what I mean? He’s playing to win, and he makes winning plays as you’ve seen… I’m excited to see him back in the league feeling good,” Baron concluded. With Ja on the team, the Grizzlies look like a transformed side. But that doesn’t intimidate Anthony Edwards, who’s made it clear that he’s the top dog in the league.

Anthony Edwards backs himself over Ja Morant with a bold statement!

During the Paris Olympics, Anthony Edwards made a comment that made quite the noise. According to him, he was the #1 option on the team despite the likes of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant. While he was ready to sacrifice for the team to reach the golden objective, in Minnesota he’s the No.1 without a shadow of a doubt. Ant-Man would probably even back himself to be high among the best of the West. So when the question regarding Ja Morant popped up, the answer had the familiar Edwards spice to it.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Anthony Edwards truly 'cook' Ja Morant despite trailing in their head-to-head record?

Have an interesting take?

During a recent interview with Chris Tucker, Anthony Edwards was asked if he could beat Ja Morant 1v1. “Oh yeah, he’ll be back this year. A lot of people, I ain’t going to say they forgot about him, but he went under wraps for a few months, because he hasn’t been playing,” the 23-year-old said. “But as far as one-on-one, yeah, I can probably cook him.”

He’d probably have to check that because so far in head-to-head meetings, Ja Morant is in the lead with a 10-6 record. Can Ant really “cook” Ja? That’ll be an interesting watch for which we’ve to wait till next year, Jan 11, when the sides will meet in the regular season.
