Did Anthony Edwards make the right call stepping back for Kevin Durant, or should he have stood firm?

This year’s USA Basketball features generational talent. On one hand, we have players like Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. Whereas, youngsters and upcoming stars including Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton are part of the same roster. It is safe to say that this is one of the most diverse rosters ever assembled in Team USA history. Moreover, many would consider this the Dream Team of the modern era. However, as star-studded as this roster is, it also includes a fan playing alongside his idol.

Anthony Edwards has mentioned Kevin Durant as his favorite player of all time quite often. The two went up against each other in the first round of the postseason, with ANT and the Wolves sweeping the Suns. Yes, it was an unexpected outcome and had somewhat of a negative impact on the Suns’ future, but KD had nothing but respect for his 23-year-old fan. Edwards is one of the luckiest, having played against his idol and now representing the country alongside him. Ant-Man is looking forward to watching KD on the floor more than sharing the ball with him.

When asked about his expectations for the upcoming tour, Edwards said“I want to see the Olympic KD. I’ve been watching on TV. When he makes all the shots in the Olympics. It’s time for me to see, I want to watch it from the bench now. Whatever it is, if I’m on the floor on the bench, however it is. I want to watch him win us a game.” As a fan of KD, having to play with the Slim Reaper might just leave ANT star-struck.

However, this will be the last time KD, Steph, and Bron will be playing together for Team USA. Each of them has inspired fans around the world and had an influential impact on the game. Of course, fans are aware of times and many won’t see LeBron James throw down vicious slams, Steph Curry pulling up from the logo, or watch KD drop 40 bombs in a few years. But as the next generation takes over, players like Edwards, Haliburton, Doncic, and others will be taking care of the Association. How will these young stars shape the future of basketball?

His remarkable postseason run, particularly the impressive sweep against the Suns with 40 points, 7 three-pointers, and 6 assists, showcased his ability to elevate his game when it counts the most. This performance didn’t just signal his arrival as a playoff competitor; it also hinted at his potential to be a future MVP. As he continues to develop, his influence on the court and within the team dynamic will be crucial, especially as he learns from seasoned veterans like Durant.

Moving forward in this tour seems to be quite easy for Team USA.
