Could Anthony Edwards really handle the NFL's brutal hits, or is he dreaming too big?

One statement of Anthony Edwards ignited a barrage of opinions. While speaking to Justin Jefferson, he confidently bragged about being able to switch sports. Having played youth football, Ant-Man said, “If I win a ring in the next 3-4 years, I’m going to play football,”. Several analysts and even some of his peers gave their takes on the possibility of him realistically going to the NFL.

Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic sided with Jefferson’s claim. He felt the sensation of one hard hit would lead to Edwards contemplating his decision. Still, some do believe certain players from the league could embark on a career on the football field. Most recently, Paul George was asked to curate a group of five to form his dream NFL side using only league players.

One of his receivers without question was the 23-year-old Wolves star. “He is quick, speed, athletic and just a bully. Like I think he’s extra physical,” he said. He needed a partner for the same, and after a few switches, he decided to go for the most decorated player on the football field. “I’m going Bron, easy,” he said.

Before becoming a record-setter in the NBA, James shuffled between being a high school basketball phenom and a relentless force on the field. Then there was a spot at running back which George decided to give to a former teammate of his Russell Westbrook. Knowing his past in the sport and the nuclear athleticism to complement him, it was a rather simple choice.

At the tight end, George needed someone agile and strong. His mind instantly gravitated to the most emphatic dunk in NBA contest history. “At tight end I’m going to go Aaron Gordon,” PG13 said on his podcast. The selection of the Nuggets forward wouldn’t be his only surprise pick. To round up the roster he needed a man who could sling the ball.

And this came as a “sleeper pick”. “At quarterback I’m going to go DeMar DeRozan… DeMar can fling that motherf****r,” Paul George said on Podcast P.

Paul George might need to convince one of his picks

Around the league, players have earned their stripes to be in the NFL conversations. Anthony Edwards and LeBron James both even made the team that Tom Brady compiled while at the Paris Olympics. But George, knowing the depth abilities chose a few unknown players, including Deebo.

Two seasons ago, during the Chicago Bulls’ training camp, mid-range master DeMar DeRozan, along with teammate Zach LaVine, took to a football field to showcase their skills. What happened next surprised everyone. DeRozan encouraged the players to run their routes, and without taking a step, he launched a perfect spiral pass. The distance was impressive, with throws easily reaching 60 yards.

The video grew so popular that DeRozan had to explain it. Was he naturally good at throwing a football? As it turns out when in middle school, he played as a QB, even sharing time with the high school time. He would have loved to continue but “mom didn’t let me play,” he revealed.

However, that wasn’t the only obstacle he had to overcome. Growing up, Deebo watched the brutal defenders that are wired for one purpose – take out the quarterback. “If I see f—ing Ray Lewis or some running at me, I’m laying down,” he hysterically admitted. Clearly, he made a great choice as not only is he most the prolific scorers of the modern age but has also craved a 16-year career in the NBA.
