“I don’t think anybody had skill back then.” With his controversial statement about the players of the older generation, Anthony Edwards has ticked off a lot of NBA legends. Everyone from Magic Johnson to Kevin Garnett has voiced their honest opinion and fired back with some brutal responses. Well, joining the list now is former NBA Champion Rasheed Wallace who made a bold claim comparing Ant-Man to a forgotten 90s legend.
Responding to Edwards’ comment, Sheed said, “I like Ant-Man too but here’s my thing, at this point in his career in my opinion, he’s not better than Derrick McKey. He’s not better than a Grant Hill. He’s not better than a Scottie Pippen. You know what I’m saying?” Well, the two names Rasheed took were not too surprising as Pippen was a six-time champion and one of the greatest two-way players ever while Grant was deemed by many as the next Michael Jordan before injuries derailed his career. However, one name took co-host Bonzi Wells by surprise.
“Love Derrick McKey but ahh!” he remarked. But Wallace was firm on his stance, “No, No. Again, I’m talking both sides of the ball now. You know Derrick McKey was a defender.” Although many fans wouldn’t remember it, McKey was a beast during his heyday. Not only was he a nightly 15-point threat on offense, but he made the All-Defensive Second Team twice in his career. While Ant-Man might be a better scorer than McKey, Sheed claimed on the ‘Sheed & Tyler’ podcast that he is yet to match McKey’s defensive prowess, “(Edwards) He is not a defender. He’s improving but yeah, he’s not that defender yet.” But how true is the Pistons legend’s claim about Ant-Man? Let’s dive in.

Anthony Edwards displayed his versatility during his West Finals run
Following the bold claim, Sheed made it clear that there is one-way Ant-Man could rise in his opinion, “You get past them motherf**king Denver Nuggets. Right now, to me they’re the Kings of the West.” Sure enough, his co-hosts pointed out that Ant-Man already conquered Denver earlier this year by eliminating them in a thrilling seven-game series. However, Rasheed nullified that triumph by saying, “Yeah they put em out but they didn’t win sh*t.” Although he dethroned The Joker and his crew, Edwards was unable to carry that momentum to the next series and got eliminated in the Conference Finals.
However, he did prove in the first two series that he is not just an offensive player. During Game 7 of the series against Denver, he was struggling to put the ball in the basket and finished with an abysmal six of 24 shooting. But what got the job done was his elite defense on Jamal Murray, which helped the Wolves cut down a twenty-point deficit in the second half.
After the game, Ant-Man proudly said, “You know there’s more ways to win a basketball game when you’re just not an offensive player man. I’m not one dimensional, I’m not just a guy who can score. I’m a guy who can go whoever their best guard is, I can go lock him down. I feel like I did that on Jamal.” Even though Sheed does not believe it, Edwards might be an elite two-way player who seems to be getting better every season. Do you agree with the claim that Derrick McKey is better than Anthony Edwards?
