Anthony Edwards has arrived! The youngster, often compared to a younger version of Michael Jordan, chose the Puerto Rico game to announce himself globally. After a breakout playoff season in the NBA, this was on the cards in Team USA colors, and now it finally happened. Before the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ant-Man proclaimed that he was the No.1 option in the team. And didn’t he prove that again?

Team USA needed a big performance despite making sure of their quarterfinal qualification. They needed it to not only avoid slipping down from the top of Group C but also to meet the community’s expectations, something that has been a constant for this team. Ultimately, they got the job done with a 104-83 win and Anthony Edwards was surely the star of the show. While he is making fans for the next generation, Ant-Man is still awestruck by the experience of sharing the locker room with his idols.

Sharing the court with the players you grew up watching is the stuff from the dreams! For Anthony Edwards, it became a reality, that too, while representing the country. “Hell yeah, I mean, they’re three of the greatest players ever, so the fact that they would let me put on a show shows a lot, shows their character, man. They’re willing to do anything to win the game,” he said in the post-game interview via CBS Sports about LeBron James, KD, and Steph Curry, deeming it “the best feeling ever” to share the stage with them.

However, his comments come as contradictory to what his former college head coach, Tom Crean, had to say about his mentality. “I think he just fits in very well with them. He’s respectful, but he’s never in awe, and I think that’s what you want out of somebody that’s young like that that plays,” Crean exclusively had told EssentiallySports reporter Grant Afseth in an interview. Sorry, Coach, but it looks like Anthony Edwards has been awestruck by the surrounding aura, and honestly, who wouldn’t be?

And why wouldn’t he be? It’s the Olympics after all. He is already enjoying his time off the court. This positive vibe is also helping him thrive on the court, as Anthony Edwards’ masterful performance spoke volumes about his growth since last year.

Anthony Edwards takes over the Team USA vs Puerto Rico game “with some style”

Anthony Edwards exploded to life in the latter stage of the game, taking his tally to 26 points in quick-fire fashion. The 2-time All-Star’s highlight reel performance steadied the ship after a tough start for Team USA. The blowout started in the second quarter of the game as Dream Team 2.0 smashed Puerto Rico 39-16 to take control of the game. His windmill dunk even got LeBron James pumped, as he swung his arms in the air after the 22-year-old stole the ball for a solo finish. “Anthony Edwards with some style,” the announcer exclaimed as the arena roared! Those were scenes surely worth watching!

Apart from his 26 points from an efficient 11 of 15 shooting, Anthony Edwards gobbled up 3 rebounds and dished out 3 assists as well in the stellar performance. The next stop for Team USA is Paris, where all the knockout games will be played. The defending Gold medalists will play Brazil in the quarter-finals and surely Anthony Edwards will channel all the inspiration he’s getting for the 5-in-a-row national dream.

From now on, the games are going to get more challenging than ever, and Steve Kerr was quick to admit the same, referring to the Japanese. “We’ve seen almost everybody, but we haven’t seen Brazil, and that’s our focus,” Kerr said. “We’ve gotta be ready, they made 18 threes yesterday, and they are the best offensive rebounding team in the tournament, so we have to be ready.”
