Anthony Edwards can be overzealous at times. And for the third time in his career, his expressive nature cost him. After a soft scuffle with Jared Vanderbilt landed him a 15th technical, Ant found himself in trouble again two quarters later. Midway through the third quarter as the Timberwolves looked to pierce through a massive deficit, a loose ball situation got Edwards suspended. Let us explain.

Edwards tried to drive against the Lakers’ Gabe Vincent when he lost the ball. The Wolves cornerstone felt there was a foul and looked confused on the floor. The Lakers blitzed and the 23-year-old let some words slip. He appeared to tell the official “That’s a f—— foul,”. The referee then penalized him with a second technical for the game which led to an ejection for the blazing shooting guard.

Anthony Edwards was having a decent game up until his ejection. He delivered 18 points and 5 assists without turning the ball over. However, his ejection cut him short of what could have been a big performance for the determined guard. But the damage doesn’t stop there.

The second technical foul was also Edwards’ 16th tech of the season. It means the Minnesota Timberwolves ace faces an automatic suspension. And while he hates missing games when even partially healthy, Ant-Man will be forced to watch from home tomorrow when they face the Utah Jazz.

Unless of course, the league decides against it. Although Anthony Edwards did technically curse, it wasn’t anything harsh towards the officials. However, his actions afterward may force the NBA to keep the suspension alive. Upon his dismissal from the game, Edwards threw the ball into the stands. So he could miss the game against the Jazz after all.

So close for the Anthony Edwards-less Wolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves have continued to show their resilience even when Anthony Edwards isn’t having the greatest games. A couple of nights ago, they battled through a 25-point deficit against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Edwards only had 17 in the overtime battle. Although it was his block on SGA that sealed the game, the Wolves aren’t the ones to submit.

Against the Lakers, they made some ground after Edwards’ ejection. They got the game within a single possession. Rookie Terrence Shannon Jr. took the charge scoring 12 of his 25 in the fourth quarter. But a moment of improbable magic stole their thunder. Yes, it came from Luka Doncic.

The 25-year-old didn’t manage to hit a single one of his well-set three-pointers. But when most needed, Doncic came through with a miraculous off-balance trey to provide the Lakers with ample room to finish the game.

It was a struggling game for him though. While he did score 21 points, Doncic only shot 6-20 from the floor. LeBron James though was bouncing around in regal fashion. The Akron Hammer lead all scorers with 33 points to go with 17 rebounds and 6 assists in the Lakers’ fourth straight win.

In doing so though, they did suffer from damage. Notably, with a game against the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow, Rui Hachimura and James’ participation could be in doubt. It is sad news for the in-form Purple and Gold. But it also allows Luka Doncic to be at the helm and get comfortable with his new team.

As for the Timberwolves, unless Anthony Edwards does escape a suspension, they will be shorthanded when taking on the Jazz on the road. Comparing records alone, it’s a game the Wolves should be winning. But the Jazz are relentless in the way they play. And with Edwards potentially out, they will take their chances to stun the Timberwolves.
