Anthony Edwards has no belief in carrying the burden of the past. But what if the past was something as painful as a denial in the semifinal game of the FIBA World Cup? Fans will be finding it hard to forget the loss Team USA suffered against Germany in 2023. But as a player, it seems, you have no option but to move on and only focus on what’s next. Well, that seems to be the mantra, as Ant-Man visibly didn’t want to have an in-depth conversation about Franz Wagner and Co.
Notably, in a recent media interaction, Ant faced questions about the Germans, and them being “underrated” this year. The reporter wanted to know the Timberwolves star’s views about people “ranking other teams higher.” To which Anthony Edwards responded, “They good, they beat us last year. I don’t think they’re underrated. I think everybody knows what they come with.” The 2x All-Star was further asked “what stuck” with him from last year.
“No memories,” he straightaway replied, nodding, and then looked away. Just for the sake of a quick reminder to the fans, Team USA was the favorite to win the 2023 FIBA World Cup. But everything from the odds to the traveling fan’s itinerary to the Hoopers’ legacy was upset by Germany, who beat them 113-111! This is the highest score by any team against Team USA, in a FIBA World Cup semifinal.

However, in all fairness, even the opposition had what they call the German Stephen Curry — Andre Obst. His 24 points, along with Franz Wagner’s 22, played the main role in upsetting Anthony Edwards and Co. However, Team USA has gotten the original version of Curry facing Germany in this instance, and only two players—Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, remain from the 2023 roster.
LeBron James reveals that the 2023 Germany loss is “extra motivation”
Despite not being part of Team USA for the FIBA World Cup, the King seems to have taken things to heart, just like most of the country did. And the 4x NBA champ intends to use those wounds to fuel the team’s aspirations this year. “It’s extra motivation for us to hold each other to a standard. We already knew they were going to give us some tests, and we was gonna test them as well,” James said about Germany.

The Laker was instrumental in Team USA’s win at their exhibition face-off. Notably, Germany was yet again giving the Hoopers a hard time, leading by 81-80 with 4 minutes remaining on the clock. But LeBron James was in no mood to hand them over the win, not on his watch, at least.
What does he do? Turning on the Thanos mode — “Fine, I’ll do it myself” — James single-handedly scored Team USA’s final 11 points to sneak a 92-88 win. “It was a good test for us, and I’m glad we were able to once again keep our composure and persevere like we did the other day against South Sudan. It was a good win for us,” the King said after the game.

Anthony Edwards claims no memory of FIBA loss—Is this confidence or just plain arrogance?
Have an interesting take?
Now, Anthony Edwards may have responded differently. However, there is no doubt he, too, would want his revenge on Germany, considering he was on that losing roster.
